Anaheim Servicemen by jim moore Murvin Bryan Allen, son of Mrs. Irene Jane Allen, 124 S. Vine St., recently enlisted in the U. S. Navy, as a Seaman Recruit, at the local U. S. Navy Recruiting Office in the Post Office Building, 113 West Broadway. The new Navy man will undergo nine weeks training at the Naval Training Center, San Diego. Allen is a former student at Garden Grove High School. Acting Sgt. Arnold R. Craig, USMC, son of Mr. and Mrs. A. A. Craig, 903 Nutwood Ave., and Sgt. James Miller, Jr., USMC, of 1017 E. Center St., took part in a desert war training exercise March, 10-20, in the Southern California desert near the 29 Palms Marine Corps base. The exercise was designed to round out the Fifth Marine Regiment's training which has already taken them through amphibious, airphibious, mountain and snow survival training. David Gadomski, son of Mr. and Mrs. Costantine A. Gadomski, 7572 Lindacita St., recently enlisted in the U. S. The battalion performs maintenance on all types of vehicles and ordnance equipment for the Division. LT. DAWSON gets half stripe Thomas F. Dawson, formerly Lt. Junior grade, USN, son of Mr. and Mrs. George B. Dawson of Georgetown, Tex., and husband of the former Miss Joan Sostroot of 1885 W. Ball Road, was promoted to Lieutenant, senior grade, March 2, at the Saufley Field Naval Auxiliary Air Station, Pensacola, Fla. Before entering the Navy in July 1953, Lt. Commodore Esek Hopkins, Commander in Chief of the Continental Fleet, reported that Columbus, a ship under his command, captured the British Tender Hawk while the Continental Fleet was returning from its raid on New Providence in the Bahamas. Fireman Renato Yruretagoyena, USN, son of Mr. and Mrs. Pedro Yruretagoyena, 525 Concord Place, is now part of ship's company at the Naval Station, Pearl Harbor, Oahu, Hawaii. The naval station is located on the shoreline of what was once known to the Imperial Japanese Naval Commanders, as the graveyard of the U.S. Pacific Fleet. The naval station performed a near impossible task of rising out of the bombed rubble following the December 7th, 1941, attack, and then expanded and serviced the Pacific Fleet naval task forces for the duration of the war. Audrey Hepburn To Star In Hitchcock Thriller HOLLYWOOD (URI) — Elfin Audrey Hepburn is set for a starring role in the Alfred Hitchcock suspense thriller based on the Henry Cecil book, "No Ball for the Judge." Shooting is expected to start in May at Paramount where Miss Hepburn first won movie fame in "Roman Holiday." Her performance won her an Academy Award. Kellogg Foundation of Battle Creek, Michigan, toward the development of two-year training coursses for registered nurses in California's junior colleges. Roy E. Simpson, State Superintendent of Public Instruction, says $28,000 has been received from the foundation for the first five months of the five year program. The program seeks to meet an expanding need for registered year training efforts now on trial in 12 California junior colleges. Crittenden, California Highway Patrol Commissioner, says the tiny gasoline powered cars are being used illegally by their pre-teen age owners. He says the cars are legal only when used on private property and urges parents to see that their children keep the toys off public streets and highways. One of the violations, he said, is that they don't have vehicle license plates registered with the Department and displayed on the autos. The vehicles must also meet legal requirements as to lights, brakes, windshield, and other equipment, and must be driven only by a licensed operator. "Our main concern," Crittenden emphasized, "is with the safety of these youngsters. Parents will be cited for violation in order to save their youngsters from injury or death," he added.
