Request for Apartment House
A reclassification request submitted by Haskell E. Kelley, et al., asking to change from R-O to R-3 zoning property located on the east side of West St., between North St. and La Palma Ave., was denied by City Council at its Tuesday night's meeting.
The main point of contention against Kelley's request was that the people in the area had a nice residential tract which they wanted to maintain and improve without the presence of the apartment buildings he wished to erect on the land adjacent to their property.
An unidentified man proved the reclassification said that the area was and the weedy home This assertion was a man and woman who had managed to rid of both weeds and out too much trouble.

Great Lakes Port Soon To Have Huge Cranes
DULUTH, MINN. (UPI) — Two huge gantry cranes are being installed here to give Duluth the greatest lift capacity of any Great Lakes port.
The cranes have 110 - foot long booms and are mounted on top of a 50 - foot tower. Each crane has a lifting capacity of 90 tons and will be equipped to handle cargo.
An unidentified man who approved the reclassification request said that the area was an eyesore and the weedy home of gophers. This assertion was countered by a man and woman who said they had managed to rid their property of both weeds and gophers without too much trouble.
An alternative plan of developing the property for single family units was offered by the use of cul de sacs which would enable the developer to meet depth and width requirements as set forth by the city.
This plan was not found suitable by the petitioner, however, and his request was finally denied.

Anaheim Man Needs Aid in Providing Movies for Bedridden Children
A man who has made it a habit at his own expense, to travel throughout the County showing movies to crippled children and tubercular patients in County hospitals has met with difficulty.
Albert Hermanson, of 1909 Savoy, a worker for the Moore Business Forms Co. in Fullerton has run out of movies and needs aid in acquiring more. He owns his own projector and has purchased the films with his own money, and has given from one to two nights a week of his own time to bring happiness into the lives of little children who are spending their lives in bed. Hermanson wants to continue his work—his own girl died at the age of 12 a year and a half ago after being totally paralyzed her entire life—but he can no longer afford the purchase of films. He still has the time to give, but he has run out of money.
His work has been officially praised by Dr. Hyman Tucker of the Fairview State Hospital, Costa Mesa, as well as the head nurses for Orange County and Rancho Las Vegas Hospitals.
It is Albert's hope that one of the city's many service clubs will give him financial and moral backing in his endeavor to purchase more films with which to lessen the boredom of lying in bed, hour after hour, day after day, year after year.
Hermanson may be contacted by calling Ke 3-2686 or by stopping by at 1908 Savoy, Anaheim.

McFie stated that the Post Office Department has established a special Board of Civil Service Examiners for the Anaheim area in order to speed up the testing and rating of applicants who take the Civil Service examinations. This will enable enrollment of career postal employees as soon as vacancies occur.
Applications from both men and women are being accepted for clerk positions, but men only may apply for letter carrier positions. In most instances, clerk vacancies will be filled from the male register. Applications will continue to be received until adequate registers are established. Applicants must reside within the delivery limits of the Anaheim Post Office and have reached their 18th birthday on the date of filing application.
The Postmaster emphasized that postal careers provide workers with high job security, opportunities for promotion through competitive examinations, liberal vacation and sick-leave allowances, low-cost life insurance, and a generous retirement plan. He said that clerks and carriers earn $2 an hour to start, and are eligible for automatic increases to $2.42 per hour, with 10 per cent additional for night work.
Application blanks are available at the Anaheim Post Office and Brookhurst Center Station, 2245 W. Ball Road, Anaheim, California.
