For New Sports Arena in LA
The 1959 Los Angeles Home Show will be held July 16 through 28 in the new Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena, it was announced today by Home Show President Dale J. Missimer.
The Exposition will be the first major show in the ultra modern Arena, now rapidly nearing completion.
The Coliseum Commission granted the dates, the first for the new building, after the contractor L. E. Dixon reported the Arena would be ready nearly three months ahead of schedule.
Final approval of the dates now depends only on a clearance from the Building and Safety Commission. Missimer and the Coliseum Commission expressed belief that no major stumbling blocks would crop up, thus permitting the public an early opportunity to view the magnificent Arena.
Missimer said he was proud that the Los Angeles Home Show had been selected to premiere the building. He declared the facilities now available would enable the Home Show to present the biggest and finest home and building Exposition of it's type in the world.
Equally elated was Prode B. Kilstofte, Chairman of the Coliseum Commission, who said the dates were granted because the Commission believed the Home Show would add to the beauty of the Arena.
The Home Show had called Pan Pacific Auditorium home, for 13 years, and during that time, had grown into the biggest Exposition of its type in the world. It had hosted more than 2,000,000 persons who had come to inspect model homes, wonder at new products, exclaim over the home furnishing salon, be entertained by the world's greatest artists.
Managing Director Carl F. Kraatz promised that the 1959 Home Show would outdo all previous shows because of the greatly expanded facilities of the new Arena.
He said exhibitors should contact Bill Satterwhite at 6399 Wilshire Blvd. or call OLive 3-8610 for information.
Suit to Get Bonelli's Loot Set by Cranston
Suit to Get Bonelli's
Loot Set by Cranston
SACRAMENTO (UPI) — Controller Alan Cranston has given the go-ahead signal for a suit against William G. Bonelli to reclaim "any amounts collected illegally from liquor licensees while Bonelli was a member of the Board of Equalization."
Cranston said he asked Attorney General Stanley Mosk Monday to file the suit because Bonelli "ignored" a letter requesting him to appear here and produce his books and records for a settlement of accounts.
Bonelli, 63, now in Mexico City fighting extradition to California on a Riverside County bribery indictment, applied in January for a state pension of $445 a month.
Mosk ruled the state could offset against the pension claim any amounts Bonelli collected illegally as a member of the Board of Equalization. Mosk said the amounts were in excess of $250,000.
