Oscar Lorenz, vice chairman of the Department of Vegetable Crops, says the investigation will have three objectives:

Around Hollywood

HOLLYWOOD (UPI) — Portrait of a beauty on the spot:
Angie Dickinson, almost unknown to the public, has been tabbed by members of the press, studio big shots, Movieland insiders as the biggest star of the future.
Now she must live up to advance billing.
Angie's a beautiful girl, but not the kind to stop traffic. She has golden brown hair, brown eyes, and by Hollywood standards, relatively modest measurements—35-22-36. She makes a fetching picture, but her physical endowments aren't the overwhelming equipment of a Marilyn Monroe, for instance.
Neither is she an Ingrid Bergman nor an Audrey Hepburn in the acting department.
Still, she clicks when meeting people for the first time.
May Fulfill Prophecies
“If I can keep my judgment and build my career slowly, I may be destined to fulfill the prophecies,” the North Dakota-born actress said.
“All the excitement is based on a rather small role I had in ‘Rio Bravo’ — not on publicity stunts or cheesecake. And I have the added advantage of not being compared to any other big star.”
Her single leading role, opposite John Wayne, has led to three contracts, including one with Warner Brothers.
Warners has already given her a top role in “The Bramble Bush.”
“This time my co-star is Richard Burton. If my leading men remain on this level I won't have anything to worry about.” Angie said frankly.
“I'm lucky because audiences have never seen me in a series of second-rate pictures. This way they'll see me for the first time at my best. I was ready to act and do a good job for these pictures.
No Startling Beauty
“You see, I have the kind of face that won't hold people's attention. I'm not a startling beauty. Unless I have something important to do on the screen no one will notice me.
"I can't rely on my face or figure as some other actresses do."

Washington Talk Makes Students Of Lawmakers
COLUMBUS, Ohio (UPI) — Stephen M. Young has advised the homefolks that he had to learn a new language when he became a U.S. senator and began dealing with Pentagon generals this year.
The Ohio Democrat gave these translations of Washington gobledygook:
"It's in process": The matter is so wrapped up in red tape the situation is almost hopeless.
"We'll look into it": By the time the wheel makes a full turn, we assume that you'll have forgotten about it too.
"Program": Any assignment that cannot be completed by one phone call.
"Expedite": To confound confusion with commotion.

ITALIAN SAYS PLANETS Spying On Earth Now
MILAN, Italy (UPI) — Venus and Mars are spying on us, says Italian flying saucer expert Alberto Perego.
In a recent address here, Dr. Perego said he believed there were about 3,000 flying saucers from Venus and Mars continually hovering around European and Italian skies.
Perego, president of the Italian Study Center for Electromagnetic Aviation, illustrated his statement with photographs purportedly showing mysterious flying object in Italian skies.
He recently claimed that a flying saucer hovered over Vatican City at about the time Pope Plus XII was elected in the Oct. 28 conclave.
Nothing Wrong-Just Likes To Stand In Snow
SYRACUSE, N. Y. (UPI) — During a recent storm, police received a report that a man was "standing on a corner in a fixed position and covered with snow." They took him to a hospital where authorities said the man appeared "entirely rational" and, released him.
A few hours later police got another call. The man was on another corner... "staring straight ahead... without moving a muscle." He was returned to the hospital for observation.

If you feel like lifting an eyebrow at the bidding, lift away. The hand was bid as reported in the recent world championship in New York. North and South were aggressive, but they got to a makeable contract.
The trouble is that not every mobile contract is actually needed.
Step up with the king. Later, you can-lead the queen of spades from the dummy to pick up East's jack and force out West's ace at the same time.
How do you get to your hand in order to lead that first trump?
The only way to do so is to lead a low club from dummy at the second trick. This puts you in position to ruff the next club and thus enter your hand.
Here's how the play goes: East wins the second trick with the ten of clubs and returns a heart to dummy's king. South ruffs a low club and leads a trump.
What can West do? He takes the king of spades and leads either a heart or a diamond. Either way South is in control of the hand. He leads another trump and must regain the lead to draw West's last trump with the ten of spades. Then he can take the diamond finesse if it is still needed.
When the hand was actually played, declarer led the six of spades from dummy at the second trick. Now there was no way to stop the defenders from taking three trump tricks and their ace of clubs.

The trouble is that not every makable contract is actually made. In this case, the American player who held the South cards gave up without a struggle.
See if you can do better. Find a way to make four spades against the opening lead of the nine of hearts.
Count Losers
A count of the losers indicates that you must lose at least one club and two spades. Is there any way to hold the trump trick to two tricks?
You must lead the first trump from the South hand. West must
Answer: Bid two clubs if not vulnerable against vulnerable opponents. In any other vulnerability such as overall is dangerous and probably wrong. Don't make such a bid against hair-trigger doubles. It's all right, however, to make dangerous bids of this kind if the opponents are very slow at doubling for penalties.
