Orange County Home Show Opening Set for
The most complete giveaway package ever offered by the Orange County Home Show has been put together today.
Winner of the $20,000 "Chance-of-A-Lifetime" duplex to be offered free to some visitor at the fifth annual show which opens tomorrow at the Orange County Fairgrounds will have a way out if he must buy a lot on which to put the house.
F. Roy Greenleaf, Jr., president of the Costa Mesa Savings and Loan Association, announced today that his association will finance the lot purchase and cost of moving the house for the winner.
The home then would be free and clear except for monthly payments on the first trust deed.
Monthly rental income from one or both sides of the custom-designed duplex could be expected to meet these monthly payments and show a profit for the owner.
It's the most valuable model home we've ever given away at the Orange County Home Show," said George Colouris, producer of the big event.
In addition to the all-electric Gold Medallion home, the current edition of the big show will present a "supermarket" of home, garden and patio equipment, furnishings, appliances and gadgets.
The show opens at 6 p.m. tonight at the Commercial Exhibits Bldg. on the fairgrounds.
Highlight of opening night is expected to be the queen contest, set for 7:30 p.m. Al Pearce, famed as radio's Elmer Blurt, the low pressure door to act as master for the contest.

Three will survey to become queens of the big show.
Contest will be Ale Jerry Marks, who produced Orange do-it-yourself show Hardware; F. Roy past president of the TV Builders Association Lawrence; current association; amnis, Santa Ana bldg.
Two stage shows Harding and Moses featured on openings appearances of the member cast have twice nightly Thursday and for two more evening shows each Sunday.
Cliff C. Kent, c. 1950 home show, show this year with various records. Law drew 91,000 visitors five-day run.
Show hours are weekdays and 1 Saturday and Sunday.
New Spray May Be End To Brown Lawn Problems
WARSAW, Va. (UPI) — Researchers at a state experiment station here are testing a dye-like substance that may be the answer to the problem of keeping lawns green the year around.
H. M. Carper, station director, said the green stuff is sprayed on lawns when the grass turns brown in the fall.
Carper said the spray has held up well during its winter test on Bermuda grass lots, even in heavy rainfall.
“There is no evidence so far it will rub off,” he said, “and we believe the applied color will last until new growth begins.”
Carper said a gallon of the dye concentrates will mix out to 12 gallons of liquid. Each gallon of pressure door to act as master for the contest.

pressure door to door salesman will act as master of ceremonies for the contest.
Pearce, whose line, "Nobody to home, I hope, I hope, I hope," made him famous, will share the spotlight with 16 of Orange County's loveliest daughters.
Three will survive the judging to become queen and princesses of the big show. Judges for the contest will be Alex Fishman and Jerry Marks, who last summer produced Orange County's first do-it-yourself show at Lin-Brook Hardware: F. Roy Greenleaf, Jr., past president of the Orange County Builders Assn., Marvin E. Lawrence, current president of the association; and Carlyle Dennis, Santa Ana businessman.
Two stage shows, presenting the Harding and Moss Revue, will be featured on opening night. Other appearances of the revue's seven-member cast have been set for twice nightly Thursday and Friday and for two matinees and two evening shows each on Saturday and Sunday.
Cliff C. Kent, chairman of the 1970 home show, claims the big show this year will top all previous records. Last year's show drew 91,000 visitors during its five-day run.
Show hours are 6 to 11 p.m. on weekdays and 1 to 11 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

Kansas Lawmakers Nix Repeal For Labor Law
WICHITA (PCNF) — A proposal to repeal Kansas' voluntary unionism amendment to the state constitution was adversely reported by the State Senate committee on federal and state affairs in the current session of the legislature.

Ulcers Minimized In New Patio Office Decor
LOS ANGELES (PCNF) — Modern office decoration aims at "engineering the ulcers out" and providing a tension-free background for the executive, one of the west's largest office furniture designers reported at a trade conference.
Frank Ybarra, president of National Office Furniture Co., 218 S. Spring St., Los Angeles, said the California Living motif, influenced by patio decor, has traveled down town to become an influence in office design.
Functional informality with free form desks and subdued pastel backgrounds, has definitely taken its place in the 1950s business office picture. Ybarra told several hundred Southern California executives at National's open house recently.
Ybarra, whose Spring St. studio showrooms are in the Los Angeles financial district, recently triped the size of his plant to meet the demand for his tension-free office furniture. Ybarra is distributor for a number of standard lines, and also functions in the custom design field.
