State Health Officers Say Fluoridation OK SACRAMENTO (UPI) — The California Conference of Local Health Officers has reaffirmed its support of the fluoridation of public water supplies as a measure to reduce dental decay. In a recent statement, the Conference endorsed fluoridation "without any reservation" as a safe and effective means to reduce dental decay. Conference officials claimed the beneficial effects of fluoridation in terms of reduced teeth decay have been "conclusively demonstrated with no evidence of injurious effect." Currently, 17 communities in California are fluoridating their public water supplies. They are Antioch, Fresno Water District No. 11, Gregory Gardens, Gridley, Hayward, Healdsburg, Los Banos, Morgan Hill Oroville, Palo Alto Placerville, Pleasanton, Rosemont Water District, St. Helena, San Luis Obispo, Vallejo, San Francisco and some of the peninsula communities served by the San Francisco Water Department. In addition, the Fort Ord Water supply is fluoridated. Placentia Police Hold Pair After Accident PLACENTIA (OCNS) — Two men were being held in the Placentia City Jail after Brea police issued an all points bulletin for a hit-and-run, which occurred over the week end. Arrested for drunk in public were Sacremento B. Martinez, 53, and Dornaisan N. Oliva, 58, both of La Verne. Police told OCNS the pair had allegedly hit a car owned by Dale L. Pop Nation's Best SACRAMENTO (UPI) — For the 11th year in the past 13, California high school athletes have led the nation in track and field marks. Brown to Tour State In Report to People SACRAMENTO (UPI)—Gov. Edmund G. Brown has set April 13-14 for his two-day tour of the state to make a "mid-session report to the people." The governor said he would make major appearances at Eureka, Oakland, Fresno, Santa Barbara, Los Angeles and San Diego. He said he might make further short etops en route. Earlier, in announcing preliminary plans for the flying tour, Brown said he believed "the time has come to go to the people of California with a full report on our plans and prospects." Frustrated Bank Gets On Broadway at Last NEW YORK (UPI)—The Broadway Savings Bank opened a new branch office today at 239 Broadway and the event was a banner one for the 108-year-old institution. HOLLYWOOD — Susan Kohner, who played the light-skinned Negro girl in "Imitation of Life" and did herself proud, doesn't like to hear blasts against Hollywood as an unfit place for rearing a child. Says Susan: "My own childhood is living proof that Hollywood is a finer place for growing up than most of the gossip-ridden little hamlets in other sections of the country." Susan was born in Hollywood and has lived her full 21 years in the environs of the film industry. Her mother Lupita Tovar, was a star of Mexican and American films and her father, Paul Hohner, is a movie agent. "My parents were firm without being strict," says Susan. "They taught me a sense of true values, and these values are the same everywhere. Problem children aren't victims of locale as much as of circumstances. "The mixed-up kids mostly are those who have been thrust into Hollywood without a background that prepares them for it," she believes. "They're swept away by the glamor and excitement, while a person who grows up in this sort of life learns to accept it at its true evaluation. To a 'home-town' success is not as overpowering, nor is failure as disastrous." "Allas Jesse James" is another of those spoofs of Westerns, and you can guess what Bob Hope would do with this one. Lots of fun! .James Cagney does his usual fine stint in "Never Steal Anything Small," which deals with the boss of a small stevedores' local.
