Church News Saturday, April 4, 1959 Anaheim (Cal.) Bulletin—A-5 Christian Scientists To Hear Sermon on Fable, Fact Tomorrow Delineation between the false and true is the paramount consideration of the lesson-sermon entitled "Unreality" to be heard in all Christian Science churches on Sunday morning. The golden text from Psalms declares, "Thou hast dealt well with thy servant, O Lord, according unto thy word... Through thy precepts I get understanding: therefore I hate every false way." Selections from the Bible and from "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, affirm man's recourse to the divine law to insure freedom from unjust sentences deferred for the transgressing of o-called mortal laws. "Jesus went about all Galilee," it is recorded in Matthew, "teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people." "God is the lawmaker," asserts Mrs. Eddy in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," but He is not the author of barbarous codes." Later she says, "Christ Jesus overruled the error which First Baptists To Welcome 40 New Members Sunday morning, April 5, A. J. Harms, pastor of the First Baptist Church at Garden Grove, will extend the right hand of fellowship to 40 new members of the church. His sermon topic will be "Manna for the Soul". The ordinance of the Lord's Supper will also be observed. A series of most helpful expositions of the Book of The Acts of Apostles are being given. At the evening services, this week's subject, taken from the 12th chapter, will be entitled, "The Iron Gate Opened." Dr. Harms also will bring helpful Bible studies on Wednesday evenings at 7:30 p.m. Each week he is presenting one of the greatest chapters of the Bible. The Youth of the Church, under the guidance of Dick Westfall, will speak to the congregation bringing insights into the vocation Christian higher education the relationship of Baptist to the denomination. "Jesus went about all Galilee," it is recorded in Matthew, "teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people." "God is the lawmaker," asserts Mrs. Eddy in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," "but He is not the author of barbarous codes." Later she says, "Christ Jesus overruled the error which would impose penalties for transgressions of the physical laws of health; he annuallied supposed laws of matter, opposed to the harmonies of Spirit, lacking divine authority and having only human approval for their sanction." A small town called Icosium was once located on the site of what is now Algiers. It had a Christian bishop as late as the fifth century, but disappeared before the present city was founded in 944 A.D. The Great Clock at Westminster Palace in London — more commonly known throughout the world as "Big Ben" — started ticking on May 31, 1859. Its famous bell, however, didn't begin to toll until the following July 11. Evangelical & Reformed FAITH COMMUNITY CHURCH (United Church of Christ) 9221 Briley Ave., G. O. — L.Ehigh 9-0230 C.
