Counter-Suit Wins $621 for Defendants By Orange County News Service Who's on first may have been the description of a personal injury case that came to a climax in Superior court this week. A jury reached a decision in favor of the defendant in a $100,000 personal injury suit filed by a Long Beach family. The defendant had filed a cross-complaint against the plaintiffs for damages to his car, which he was awarded. Receiving the $621.50 was Julian Thomas Fusaro. Plaintiffs in the case had been the Egidio Lugli family, including Luigi, his wife, Sabatina, daughter Goody Frangente, and a grand-daughter, Carol Ann Frangente, 14. The accident occurred July 28, 1957 at Harbor Blvd. and Talbert. Each side had contended that the other was responsible. In addition to the suit and cross-complaint, Luigi had filed a counter-suit asking for damages to his vehicle. The jury retired at 3:30 p.m. Monday and finally returned with its verdict at 9:45 p.m. Education 'Breaks' Sought in Big Grants NEW YORK (UPI)—The Ford Foundation announced Tuesday a new series of grants for education, a $9,161.210 effort to stimulate a "breakthrough" in efforts to improve the quality of America's teachers. The grants are the first phase of a concerted new effort, the foundation said. It said another series of new grants was expected to be announced later this year. Judge Thompson had taken case under advisement and day rendered his decision. The plaintiff in the person jury suit was 23-year-old Roy Jazeb, who attends Santa Ana College. Fellows, the defendant in the ill case, was also convicted of assault charge in municipal and served a jail term. Plane Crash in Italy Bereaves Wife, Sons NAPLES, Italy (UPI)—A young American Navy wife and her three sons were reported recovering today from injuries received in a plane crash Tuesday which killed her husband and three others. Thirteen persons, including two Italian farmers on the ground, were injured here in the crash on takeoff of a Malta-based U.S. Navy transport. A Navy spokesman identified the wife as Mrs. Virginia Ryder. The dead aboard the plane were her husband, Aviation Machinist Mate W.H. Ryder, and Capt. T.W. Hillis and Chief Petty Officer J.W. Schliekelman. The spokesman said addresses of the dead and injured were not known here. New Anaheim Sewer Jobs Set at $10,836 Anaheim City Council awarded a street and a sewer improvement contract totaling $10,836 at Tuesday night's meeting. The contract for the improvement of Claudina Street from Santa Ana St. to Water St. was awarded to low bidder Sully Miller Contractors at $5864.95. Another low bidder which was awarded the contract for the Romneya Driver sewer improvement was Ace Pipeline. The contract was his for the low bid of $4,971.14. Court Awards Student 1,000 in SA Ordeal SANTA ANA (OCNS) — An ex-change student from Iran who claimed he was the victim of a terror campaign which was cli-laxed by a beating outside of a Santa Ana restaurant, has been awarded $1,000 in damages by Superior Court Judge Raymond Pomson. Judge Thompson had taken the case under advisement and Tuesday rendered his decision. The plaintiff in the personal in-try suit was 23-year-old Roy Monzeb, who attends Santa Ana Jun-College. The exchange student alleged that he was assaulted by Jerry Fellows, 24, of 2127 S. Shel-na St., Santa Ana, and Ralph S. Mitchell, who was killed in an automobile accident after the suit had been filed. Fellows, the defendant in the civic-case, was also convicted of the assault charge in municipal court and served a jail term. Monjazeb contended that Fel-ows and his friends conducted a terror campaign" at school,reatening him on several occa-ons.
