Alpha Beta's Girl Thursday
THERE'S NOTHING like fruit to put zing into Spring meals!
And, thanks to wonderful canned-food packers like Del Monte, the world's most exotic fruits (and best-loved vegetables) know no season. They're as close to us ... all year round... as the nearest Alpha Beta market.
It's especially remarkable when you consider that the canned food
(and best-loved vegetables) know no season. They're as close to us ... all year round... as the nearest Alpha Beta market.
It's especially remarkable when you consider that the canned food industry is just a little over a hundred years old. The cans themselves were not mass produced until 1857. Think how much they've enriched our lives... and our menus... in this short time.
WHY RELEGATE the luscious canned fruits on your pantry shelf to dessert time alone? I find they add sparkle to any part of the meal. Try a bit of imagination and a few new ideas like these:
SPICY STARTER
Hot Pineapple juice:
Simmer a *2 can of pineapple juice with a stick of cinnamon for 10 minutes. Add 2 tablespoons each of sugar and lemon juice. Remove cinnamon. Serve hot.
FRUIT MATES FOR MEAT
Canned fruits make favorite main dishes
FRUIT MATES
FOR MEAT
Canned fruits make favorite main dishes look and taste "company special".
WITH: SERVE:
Roast Pineapple
Beef slices topped with coleslaw
Turkey Pickled peaches
Fried Pear halves
Fish filled with chili sauce
Ham Broiled apricots or bing cherries
Fried Cranberries
Chicken or crab apples
FOR DESSERT, top apricots with whipped cream into which a little mint jelly has been folded. Delicious!
Till next time
