Lt. Cheseldine Joins Local Guard Unit Raymond M. Cheseldine Jr., 815 Casa Blanca Drive, Fullerton, an emploe of California Bank in Los Angeles, has joined Company B, 161 Armored Infantry Battalion of the 40th California National Guard as the Company Executive Officer. Cheseldine is a First Lieutenant. He came to California in 1951, enlisted in the Army in July of that year, in San Francisco, took basic training at Fort Ord, Calif. and was later sent to Officer Candidate School at Ft. Benning, Georgia. As an Army officer, Cheseldine served with the 44th Division at Camp Cook, Calif., and was separated from active service in 1954. Cheseldine is married, and has a six-month-old son. Bulletin — 3 FOOD Costs on West Coast Show Drop SAN FRANCISCO (UP)—Food costs in major cities on the west coast showed slight declines during June with the exception of Portland where housewives paid about 0.5 per cent more than the previous month. The Department of Labor reported San Francisco food expense families of moderate income was down 0.3 per cent and in Los Angeles about 0.1 per cent compared to May. Seattle showed a 2 per cent decline. The San Francisco Bay Area registered the biggest single drop cost of living expenses with the consumers index standing at 115.3, down 0.3 per cent from March costs. It was 1.3 per cent below the same index for June, 1954. Items showing the biggest drops included transportation and reading and recreation. In the Los Angeles area, the cost of living index stood at 115.3, but showed only a 0.1 per cent decline. The June index was only 0.3 per cent lower than the same month last year. Seattle’s retail food prices were a bare 0.2 per cent lower than the previous month with fruits and vegetables showing the largest decrease.
