New Type A-Weapons Revealed on Formosa
(Continued from Page 1)
An explosion can be controlled.
"A rail center, for instance," she stated, "can be wiped out, but little other damage would occur — it would not affect civilian residents in a nearby area."
The bomb, Mrs. Tregaskis stated, "is part of a whole group of weapons called precision nuclear devices." The existence of the weapons had heretofore been highly secret, she said.
"These weapons can be controlled," she hold her audience, "and that's why they call them precision weapons."
Mrs. Tregaskis predicted that Communist China would invade the Quemoy and Matsu groups—offshore islands among the last held by Chlang Kal Shek—before Oct. 1.
"Generalissimo Chiang Kai-Shek wanted the atomic weapons turned over to him to prepare for the expected invasion," she said, "but our State Department felt that the Nationalists could not be trusted to use the weapons against military targets only. They felt the bombs might be dropped on cities — killing civilians."
The OCNS reporter felt America would be dragged into the Far East war if the Communist Invasion does come off as predicted.

The OCNS reporter felt America would be dragged into the Far East war if the Communist invasion does come off as predicted.
"We are pledged to instant retaliation for attack on Formosa," she stated, "If a trigger-happy Red pilot happens to fly 10 minutes past Quemoy or Matsu, he'll be over Formosa. Just one bullet and our forces are pledged to counterattack."
The situation, she termed "A powderkeg that can be set off with a single shot."

Meeting with trustees were Lloyd Fannes, representing the George Succola Co. that is subdividing in the area; City Engineer George Holyoke, and Don Derrr, Director of Parks and Recreation. After ironing out details of developing the property for a school site, trustees asked Mannes to present them with more detailed proposal on the site at an Aug. 4 meeting.
Trustees yesterday approved notifying the County Planning Commission that property on the southwest and southeast corners of Nutwood and Carrites was being considered as a school site. The action would keep the property from being developed for other purposes until the school district could develop its plans.
Agreement with the City Park and Recreation to pay the district's share of the recreation program was also signed by the board. The amount will be $9506.
