The court issued this ruling yesterday in awarding attorney James Martin MacInnis $13,532 in fees from Mrs. Grace Shields Pope, 55, of Beverly Hills, Calif. Mrs. Pope had engaged MacInnis to pursue an alimony claim against the estate of her divorced husband, W. Kenneth Pope. He won a $150,000 settlement. When he went to claim his fee, he told this story: “I handed her the check and the papers to sign. She shoved both check and papers down into her bosom and ran down a terrace. I haven’t seen her since.” MacInnis filed suit to recover his fee. Mrs. Pope filed a cross-complaint, charged there was “implied libel” in MacInnis’ “reference to the place of deposit.” Holding this was “trash and nonsense,” the court said: “It seems to be more probable that (MacInnis) was merely referring to a well known place of deposit for women’s valuables and that he meant it as a compliment rather than a libel.” THE TV KID BROCKTON, Mass. — Little Donald’s all right, but how about the television set? Twice in one day tiny Donald Reed was taken to Brockton Hospital but nothing was found wrong with him. Donald had twice chewed up parts of television tubes and suffered no ill effects.
