Four Face Indictment For Murder
LOS ANGELES (UP) — District Attorney S. Ernest Roll said he would ask the county Grand Jury today to indict the teenage son of a millionaire and three others in the "doorbell" slaying of Frederick Winter Heinz, 19.
Roll said he would ask for indictments against Eric Newton Bass, 16, son of Newton T. Bass, wealthy Apple Valley, Calif., real estate operator; Harvey (Rocky) Bimstein, 23; John Hurney, 18; and Neal Cook, 25.
Heinz, son of a bakery firm executive, was shot fatally with a .380 automatic before the eyes of the doorbell at the family home in nearby Pacific Palisades last Saturday night.
After shooting down Heinz, the two men forced their way into the house and stole watches and wallets from Heinz' father and brother-in-law.
Bass and Bimstein were arrested last Sunday by Reno, Nev., authorities who said Bimstein admitted firing the shot that killed Heinz.
Hurney and Cook, transients held in county jail here, told Roll they met Bass and Bimstein in a downtown Los Angeles hotel and waited outside the Heinz home while the other two entered.
Hurney and Cook were arrested near the Heinz home. They claimed they were on their way back to the scene of the shooting when arrested "to see if we could help the guy who was hurt. .we didn't want any part of a rurder."

NEWPORT BEACH (OCNS)—“If we only hadn't come down here for the weekend,” is the way Mrs. W. D. Smith, Costa Mesa, looks back at the tragic events of Friday night during which Irving R.. Perrett, Los Angeles student, was killed.
The Smiths own the apartments at 1008 W. Balboa Blvd. and usually live at 963 Arbor St., Costa Mesa, but when there is a vacancy over the weekend they use their property here for beach life.
Friday night, according to Mrs. Smith; she and Mrs. Robert H. La Verne and a third woman decided to go swimming. La Verne, San Gabriel is held with Smith on manslaughter charges in connection with Perrett's death.
The women were in the rear apartment about 60 feet from the boulevard and protected by a board fence from the next building. They were putting on bathing suits when they noticed man standing in front of the window exposing himself.
"He left hurriedly and just threw our husbands came. We told them and La Verne took after the man who was running. My husband said he did not believe they could catch the man and then he started after La Verne and the man.
"We women went to the street and started to walk in that direction and saw Bill (Smith) caught up with the others and grab Verne by the arms to stop him beating the man.
"Bill told me afterward he asked the man if he was all right after that man told him 'yes.' He was going to report the Peeps Tom incident to the police but decided the beating was enough Now I wish he had reported it."

Twentynine Palms Bank Closes; Official Held
TWENTYNINE PALMS, Calif. (UP) — The President of a bank which was forced to close because of a missing $678,000 said today it broke his heart to hear his highly-regarded vice president had been arrester for embezzlement.
J. P. Wasserburger, president of the Joshua Monument National Bank of Twentynine Palms, sobbed as he heard banker-race horse owner Roscoe D. Coon, 50, had been picked up by federal authorities at a race track.
“This is a terrible blow to us,” Wasserburger said. “It just broke my heart. I just can’t believe that Coon would do anything wrong. We have had no reason at all to doubt his honesty.”
Coon, vice president and cashier of the desert community’s only bank, was arrested at Del Mar Racetrack Monday while awaiting the Wednesday opening of the summer meeting to race his stable of thoroughbreds. Del Mar is about 100 miles southwest of here.
“I am amazed,” declared Coon indignantly. “I don’t have any idea of what this is all about.”
The bank was forced to close its doors Monday and the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. was appointed its receiver. Treasury Department bank examiners still are checking the closed bank’s books.
FBI agents said Coon was charged with embezzling bank funds by ordering funds from the Los Angeles branch of the Federal Reserve Bank and intercepting the money at the Twentynine Palms post office before it could reach the bank.

FBI AGENT John F. Malone of Los Angeles said Coon had ordered the money in $50 and $100 bills.
Malone said Coon owned and operated the B-and-R Stables. He said the stable included Royal Melody, for whom Coon paid $33,000 at the Keeneland, Ky., yearling sales last summer.
Royal Melody was injured and did not race at the Hollywood Park meeting, but one of Coon's other horses, Fabricate, won at Hollywood Park. Also in the stable were Yutta, Cotton Crop and Right Down.
Hatch said Coon lived on a "modest" scale here with his wife, Elizabeth.
"He came here five years ago from a Pasadena bank with a solid background in the best banking circles," Hatch said. "He had the highest of recommendations. This sure is going to surprise people here."

Teamsters Buy Union President $163,215 Home
SEATTLE (UP) — Teamsters' Union President Dave Beck said today the "transaction was as regular as you please" when the union purchased his home for $163,-215 and gave it to him as a rent free place to live.
"I didn't think the transaction was news," he explained. He added he didn't expect any complaints from the union's rank and file members.
"I wouldn't care," said Beck.
"Since I've been president, I've made more money for the union than the salary they'll pay me for the international's assets by 12 million dollars."
The union president said the union's decision to buy his house
for him came three or four months ago and he "had nothing to do with it."
"They wanted to build me a house in Miami," he said, "but my wife's health requires me to stay in Seattle. If I had to move somewhere else, I'd resign."
Beck said his home was "more than just a house."
It's my West Coast headquar-
