Sunday Crowd at Disneyland Makes One Concession Manager Wonder
Manager of a Disneyland concession commented ruefully yesterday that there is a law of diminishing returns, even for publicity, and that as far as he could see, returns in this case had all but vanished.
Declining to be identified, the man said, "There's a definite saturation point for publicity and this place has more than met it." He said it was over-publicized, but hastened to explain, "I don't mean, a lot of publicity for a park worth only a little publicity. But this — this is impossible!" He referred to the monstrous, jam-packed Sunday crowd, so heavily squeezed in that it was practically impossible to get so much as a glass of water, or even a squirt from a fountain.
He added that it was a pleasing, idealistic plan to allow only a certain number of persons into the park then close the gates and not let any more enter until the first group had thinned out, "but no one in the first group will leave," he exclaimed.
Sunday there were long lines, without order, and from four to eight deep. Few people could boast having had a ride on more than one or two of the park's numerous rides.
The Sunday crowd soon became short trimmered, and a sort of mob-rule prevailed, each man for himself.
Rides designed specifically for children were loaded with cold-eyed, determined adults, with thousands more clamoring to gain their chance.
A blond-hired boy about 7 years of age, trying to get off the carousel in Fantasyland was just saved from being stamped by his frantic and angry mother. Children on the ride were piled three to a horse.
A waitress in one of the restaurants said at the evening drew to a thankful close, "This isn't Fantasyland. This is Frantic land."

Britain Promoting Ghosts as Tourist Attraction During Summer Months
By ROBERT MUSEL
United Press Staff Correspondent
LONDON — Tourism is big business so you can't blame Britain for marshalling all its resources to attract overseas visitors. The competition is tough. France claims its belle cuisine out of this world. Italy boasts its shrine and sunshine are out of this world.
So Britain is about to promote attraction that is really out of its world. I refer to ghosts. When it comes to wreaths and spirits of one sort and another, Britain reigns supreme. There scarcely an old tavern, manor house or castle without a cowled knick, transparent white lady or waller with head tucked under them.
Not long ago it occurred to the British Travel and Holiday Association that here was a lure for tourists. They could be offered a carney to one of those bewitched hauses.
The Salesman
In the guise of a tourist I called the association's office in St. James and talked with a ghostessman named Ray Hewett. "Ah yes," he said briskly, "you are interested in haunts. Any prefences?"
"No," I said, "just show me the complete stock."
Hewett riffled through some roads.
Here are a couple you can try for size," he said. "Both in thrust, in Kent. The pub there, the Angel,' has what they describe as a 'nice old lady' ghost. The manor house nearby there's monk lamenting the loss of his love, daughter of the lord of the manor. But he generally appears only in November."
Any ghosts going in July?" I quired.
Here's a real curiosity for you," he said. "The black dog of largest. Conan Doyle used the

I can't wait that long," I said. Any ghost in full operation right now?
Shadowy Rider
Well," he said, "there's the royal Castle Hotel in Dartmouth. My say a shadowy rider clatters to the inn yard in the dead of night."
Not bad. Any others?"
And so he traveled through the of ghosts who opened doors, hosts who gazed dolefully at the holder, ghosts who passed through ancient walls and a beau-ghost, pinup girl of theanted world, Rosamond de Stafford, mistress of Henry II, wears only a sheer silk down.
