Deny Variance for Anaheim Market With Off-Sale Liquor Department Plans to establish a food market with an off-sale liquor department at 2015-2025 Anaheim-Olive Road were thwarted yesterday when the City Planning Commission voted unanimously to deny the permit. Harold Morse and Maurice McAlister, of Los Angeles, sought the variance. Ed Brunet, 327 South Lemon St., acted as spokesman during the hearing. Two property owners from the immediate area appeared before the planners to voice objections to the liquor department part of the request. They cited traffic hazards and told the Commission that there are sufficient off-sale liquor stores in Anaheim at the present time. They also pointed out that the planners had vetoed a variance at their July 5 meeting for an off-sale liquor store west of Placentia avenue. Applicants receiving the Planning Commission's approval for their variances were: Gets Okay Mrs. Esther P. O'Donnell, 2119 Catalpa St., for permission to erect a one bedroom duplex at the northwest corner of Pearl street and Carleton avenue. The planners approved the request on the grounds that the duplex will face Carleton avenue which is a half street and deadends at the property line. The area is zoned R-2, two-family residential, however, because there is an existing house on the property, a variance for an R-3, multiple family, had to be secured. Arthur H. Shipkey, 424 North East St., to cut two lots from a parcel of property at the southeast corner of East Sycamore and North East streets and waiver the 70-foot frontage requirement. The planners made the approval subject to the payment of $25 for each of the two lots, engineering requirements and the deeding of property for the future widening of East Sycamore street. Eugenie N. Marvin, 103 South Clementine St., to cut off a lot from property located at 1008-1014 West North St., and waiver of the 70-foot frontage requirement. The approval carried the stipulation that $25 for the lot, for the park and recreation fund, be paid and a record of survey filed. Cuts Lot R. L. Martin, 1439 East Broadway, to also cut off a lot, 75 by 130 feet, from his property which also carried the $25 assessment and requirement that record of survey be filed. Reality Engineering Co., 1085 North Palm St., to waiver the 7200 square-foot lot size requirement on certain lots within their subdivision at the southwest corner of East Sycamore and North East streets. The property is presently zoned R-3 and the applicant made the variance request "on account of the city's requirement that Rose street and Bush street be lined-up with the extension of these streets to the north cutting some footage from certain lots." The variance application of Mrs. Clyde B. Schlund, 10231 South West St., was dropped because a check of her property disclosed that it is in county territory, therefore outside the city planners' jurisdiction. Mrs. Schlund sought permission to erect a service station at the northeast corner of Winston Road and South West street. The city limits run immediately in front of the property along Winston Road.
