Gov. Knight Signs 18 New Bills
SACRAMENTO (UP) — Bills signed by Gov. Goodwin J. Knight included:
SB1984 J. F. McCarthy: Appropriates $50,000 for a study of the financial and engineering feasibility of a new trans-bay crossing between San Francisco and Marin County via Angel Island.
AB2939 Stanley: Provides for acquisition, construction and improvement of small craft harbors. Knight cut a $20,000 appropriation from the bill.
AB310 D. Doyle: Increases salaries of Solano County superintendent of schools from $9000 to $9600 and Los Angeles superintendent of schools from $16,500 to $18,000 a year.
AB545 Holmes: Increases salary of Santa Barbara auditor from $8400 to $8700; district attorney $10,500 to $12,000; supervisors $5100 to $6000; superintendent of schools $8100 to $8400.
AB1054 Hansen: Adds 38-mile stretch of highway from Mendota to Olifields to Route 138. The effect of the bill will be to complete the route of Highway 33, the West Valley route through San Joaquin Valley.
AB1103 Sankary: Increases the number of municipal judges in San Diego from six to eight and ties their salary to the pay of Los Angeles municipal judges.
AB2828 Miller: Creates a municipal court in the Antelope Judicial District when the population of the district exceeds 40,000.
AB3590 and AB3598 Lowrey: Authorizes the Middle Creek Flood Project and the Cache Creek Project. The state cost of the latter project will be $2,500,000 but the bill provides no funds amount on a dam at the Guinda site below Rumsey until the Wilson Valley area has been completely investigated.
AB3758 McFall: Raises the lim-

AB970 Rumford: Fair employment practices act for public school employees.
AB3505 T. Doyle: Relating to taking of pheasants and reducing maximum size of commercial gun clears from 5000 to 2500 acres and private club from 2500 to 1500 a.
AB1546 Hegland: Sets up a program state competitive scholarships. The state will pay $600 a year to finance the college education in either a private or public institution. Total number of scholarships which ultimately will be awarded under the bill is 6400.
SB50 Grunsky: Increases San Benito superintendent of schools from $6000 to $7000.
AS-160 H. T. Johnson: Increases Placer superintendent of schools from $7400 to $8000; auditor $5700 to $6300; district attorney $4800 to $5500 and supervisors $3600 to $5000.
SB1557 Cunningham: Provides that all agencies and persons who extract ground water in Riverside, San Bernardino, Los Angeles, Ventura and Santa Barbara counties must file a notice with the Division of Water Resources.
SB1941 R. Collier: Allocates $96,000 from top of gas tax fund to be used by cities to hire engineers to plan and direct construction of city streets.
SB1976 Donnelly: Adds a new fireworks law to health and safety code. Persons manufacturing importing, exporting, selling or possessing or discharging "dangerous fireworks" must get a permit from the state fire marshal.
SB940 Dale Williams: Increases salaries of Lassen supervisors from $2400 to $3600 a year.
