Here and There
Mr. and Mrs. H. C. Schacht and son. Stephen are home from a northern vacation which took them to Shasta Lake. On their way home they stopped at Orland with the Rowland DeMilles, and their sons, Roger and Robert. The family formerly lived in Anaheim where DeMille was a part owner and manager of a barber shop. They are now located on a cattle ranch and introduced the Anaheimers to the routine of milking 51 cows on a daily program. The De Mille ranch is across from the Sacramento river.
Newest arrival in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Millspaugh of 8872 Bircher St., is a son, weighing nine pounds and four ounces and born at the St. Joseph hospital on July 7.
Issued to Marian Louise Whitley of 902 North Janss St. and Alfred Hartman of South Hansen Road has a license to wed.
Mr. and Mrs. John Serrine of 307 North Paulina St. are the parents of a daughter born at the Orange County hospital this past week.
The Stanley Comstocks of 2409 West Olive, Fullerton, have received congratulations from their hosts of friends in Anaheim on the birth of their daughter at the Fullerton Cottage hospital. The infant weighed six pounds and four ounces at birth.

When "The Great World Theater" production closed on its first night the ovation from the audience defined the interest of the people in this 300-year-old Spanish classic, a play-story of deep spiritual emotion. The play was presented at the Chapman college campus.

Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Busby of 1806 East Elm welcomed their infant daughter at the Santa Ana Community hospital Sunday. The baby weighed 8 pounds and 7 ounces at birth.
The Ray Trammells of 554 Manor are the parents of a son born Sunday at St. Joseph hospital.
Another new citizen for Anaheim was born to Mr. and Mrs. George Cudworth of 15942 Anaheim-Olive Road at the St. Jose hospital on July 7.
New Play
When "The Great World Theater" production closed on its first night the ovation from the audience defined the interest of the people in this 300-year-old Spanish classic, a play-story of deep spiritual emotion. The play was presented at the Chapman college campus.
The cast was made up of local citizens interested in the production, Carol Sorensen, who played Beauty, was outstanding in her part as she acted and sang a choice role. Richard Rossome, as the Adversary, appeared to be a great favorite of the audience as was Harald Dyrenforth, the Beggar, and Warren Owen, whose role was "Death."
The play will have four more performances, on July 15, 16, 17 and 22. Ticket prices have been set at $2 and $1, with children under 12 admitted for 50 cents. High school and college students may be admitted for 75 cents upon showing their student cards. Tickets may be obtained from the Orange Community Chamber of Commerce or at the box office on the nights of the play.
CFWC Convention Action Released
Business was combined with pleasure at the summer conference of the California Federation of Women's Clubs held recently at Shattuck Hotel, Berkeley. The state board went on record in favor of Bills AB 21 and AB 294, which deal with roadside rests and were passed by the legislature recently. A wire to Governor Knight was sent urging him to sign the bills. However, they reversed their attitude with regard to AB 3678, on the subject of water pollution; and agreed to instruct the Governor to veto it.
A highlight of the session was the attendance by bus of the group at the East Bay Commemorative luncheon of the U.N. in Oakland. The smoothness of this operation was due to the efforts of Mrs. Jacob G. Masson amenities chairman.

The Stanford chapter of Sigma national honorary science research society, has elected 208 students, faculty members, and alumni into full and associate membership.
Selection into the 68-year-old organization is one of the high-honors conferred upon science researchers.
Qualifications for full membership are noteworthy achievement in a scientific field and completion of a research project of publication. Marked excellence in one or more departments of science and an aptitude for independent research required for associate membership.
Twenty-eight foreign students staff members named to the society include representatives Austria, Argentina, the Bahamas, Formosa, Germany, Hong Kong, Brazil, Canada, Cuba, Englewood, India, Japan, Norway, Suzhou, the Philippines, and Swetzerland.

Night Planned
Executives’ Secretaries Inc., Orange County chapter is to be the hostess organization to its first firm night in 1955 when members, their “bosses” and special guests tour the Northrop Aircraft plant at Anaheim tomorrow night at eight o'clock.
Arrangements for the firm night were made through Enid Edmond, ES at Northrop with all heads of departments at the plant participating. The tour will follow the 6:30 p.m. dinner hour at Knott’s Berry Farm Indian room with Marie Nelson of Knott's and president of the organization, to welcome guests.
Northrop hosts will be R. R. Nolan, division manager; T. H. Quayle, assistant division manager; H. J. Black, director of engineering; G. D. Matter, optical engineer; W. J. Armstrong, engineering supervisor; M. A. Seeley, factory superintendent; Paul-Jones project engineer; W. L. Aldrich, manager of industrial relations; Paul Faranda, staff assistant of industrial relations.
The secretaries will close the month with their July 26 meeting at Mary Jones. Mrs. Jones, assisted by Carrie Lou Sutherland, will entertain with an informal supper in the garden of her home on South Helena Street to this closed meeting to be informal.
Whittier Prof Takes Africa Appointment
Dr. Paul L. Rice, professor of biology at Whittier College, has accepted a two-year government appointment to Africa to head a three-man team working on the survey and control of malaria in Ethiopia.
Dr. Rice, who will be stationed at Addis Ababa, leaves Whittier only 21, will be accompanied by wife, Elfrida, and their three sons, Steve, 15; Glenn, 12; and Dennis, nine. After a three-week orientation program in Washington, D.C., they will fly to Africa.
The research team will be attached to the American Embassy in Addis Ababa but the majority of their work will be done in the field.

The gown was enhanced with a sheer yoke with a Queen Ann collar giving it a regal appearance. A sculptured cap of pleated nylon tulle detailed with seed pearls and sequins was the headpiece to her filmy short veil and she carried Amazon lilies and stephanotis in her bridal bouquet. A necklace of pearls, a gift from her bridegroom, was her jeweled adornment.

The bride is a graduate of Wilson High school at Long Beach and later attended Long Beach City college. In her bridal party were Mrs. Mira Jane Brown, sister of the bridegroom, as honor matron, with a close friend from campus days, Miss Phyllis Ann Schmit of Long Beach and Miss Therese Marie Blaquirre of Anaheim, her attendants.

Her husband is a graduate of Anaheim High school. After spending four years in the U.S. Navy he enrolled at Long Beach City college and plans to complete his college training.
B'nai Brith Affairs Given Attention
Las Vegas will move down to Santa Ana on Saturday night, when B'nai Brith Women of Orange County hold their Las Vegas Night at the annex of Temple Beth Sholom, Eighth and Spurgeon Sts, at 8:30 p.m. The event is open to the public and admission is free.
B'nai Brith Women served as hostesses at the Corona Naval Hospital formal dance Tuesday night. A committee headed by Mrs. Ben Resnicoff prepared and served sandwiches for more than 200 veterans and their guests who attended this annual event.

Stewart Schmid, son of Mrs. Alice Schmid of this city and a senior at Stanford University this next year, joins the Stanford NRO NROTC unit which embarks from an eastern port aboard the USS Da Moto for a two month's cruise and visit of European countries.
