Ilona Massey on Summer Little Theater Circuit
By TOM E. DANSON
HOLLYWOOD — The beauteous Ilona Massey left by train last week for an extended summer stock tour of the mid-west and East coast, starring in "Tonight or Never." Opening in Michigan, Miss Massey will tour Iowa and other states in the corn belt, winding up in Upper New York State for the close of the 10-week circuit.
Prior to her departure, she completed a recording session for the RAMA label doing two sides, "I Live To Love," backed with, "The Kind of Man Who's Right For Me," due to be released soon.
Miss Massey prefers the "I Live To Love", side best because, as she expressed it, "the middle section is a real, low-down blues type presentation."
Like most motion picture stars, Miss Massey like television. "I always have liked working in television," she told me, "especially dramatic. You are strictly on your own, and if you miss a line — well, add it can always carry the thought through."
The charming blonde star came to Hollywood "not only chance," but with a well-known contract with MGM, stayed with this studio for three years, fore deciding to go free-lance. And in the meantime, she's had several business ventures where very well could have added few gray hairs to the top of her natural blonde head; the film in 1948, when she entered the coin operating vending machine business.
"I thought I had a real thing in this business," she said "with vitamin machines located in factories all over the country, and small tooth brushes and a dab of toothpaste vended from machines located in railroad stations, bus depots, etc."
"I tried it for about two years," she continued, "but finally had to give it up. Ph-t-t-out it went, but, nothing yet tured, nothing gained." Ilona had the same experience in the cosmetic field, and is now content to stay in the entertainment business, where, of course she can't lose.
Miss Massey is set for another of her own television shows in the fall, with a mat calling for guests (not necessarily entertainers) and personal interviews. "This show she said, 'may or may not be called 'The Ilona Massey Show' and with a big smile conclude with,' and I don't care — just CROSSWORD PU

Joe and Molly. Rob would die,
not before he'd known what it was to suffer. There was only one man like that could suffer through his pride, pride in possession. Brook Spur — that arrogant one kingdom sprawled across the country like a blight on the honest men — Broken Spur Rob Mallory. Well, then, same them both. He'd have to get other nesters together behind him — that shouldn't be too hard. The all nated Mallory. It seemed Tim that there could be no more peace for him as long as he Rob Mallory walked the street earth.
"Y'know, Kerry, I hate to be one to bring up unpleasant jets, but it's time we was thinking about findin' ourselves a couple jobs."
Kerry nodded. They were sitting at a table in a saloon in a town some hundred miles from down, and the act of paying their drinks had called their attention to the state of their pocky they'd been drifting out. Dodge for a month now, and had been fun; you couldn't ask better company to ride the bus with than Rusty.
"Too bad," Rusty sighed plough organized against folks you an me just enjoyin' their selves. Should we start making quiries about whether any of our ranchers round here got a need two first-rate cow-hands?"
Kerry counted the small stack coins before him. "How much got left?""
"Nine dollars an' some chic feed."
"I've got about twelve. The carry us a little while, if we careful—and don't get in any pockets. Fact is, I'd just as well not locate in this neighborhood."
"Not meanin' to pry into the business Kerry, but you don't pen to be wanted around here you?""
"By the law, you mean?" Kerry laughed. "No, I'm not wanted-wanted by anybody. I reckon, just-I used to live near here."

BOQUETS & BRICKBATS...
A bouquet to Marlon Marlowe who allows her photo to hang, real chummy-like, along said of that of Godfrey in New York's CBS Studio 61! And a royal brickbat to this phony (reportedly patented at that), Criswell, who daily, through the medium of television, magazines and newspapers, fools the public in a manner that would make P. T. Barnum turn over in his gravel! Wonder when he, like so many other crackpots in the past, will predict the end of the world?
DANSON ON AIR — Keeping it in the family: All the dancers on the Arthur Murray TVehicle are regular Murray dance teachers who get bit the opportunity to show off a bit before the video cameras and earn some extra money, too ... Donald Woods, who hosts the "Damon Runyon Theater" will be commuting between N'York and points along the Straw Hat Circuit this summer. The actor has been signed to rat least four engagements in summer stock productions, starting with the Henry Fonda role in "Point of No Return" at the Bucks County Playhouse ... Records pressed on the London label have a sound quality all of their own: They posses a fullness and rich quality that others seem to not be able to capture. Thanks to Jay Lowy, London's ace praise agent, I have been able to case a few of their latest pressings.

Kerry recognized him as a man who'd worked briefly for Slash T a couple of years before. "Could be."
"Nice t'se你 'gain." It had clearly not been his first drink. He was in the mellow, friendly stage. "Mind 'f I sit down? Thanks. I sure hate t'drink alone." He raised a hand toward the barbender. "Coupla drinks for my friends!" and promptly launched into a long, rambling and profanely cheerful account of a trip to Mexico. Kerry's attention had drifted away, when it was jerked back by the sound of the name "Slash T."
"Used t'work there," the stranger was saying, "an' I figured t'reid by there an' see if I could get my old job back. But when I see the way things was buildin' up found here, I says, not for me. I can take my share o' trouble if it comes along, but I ain't hankerin' t'set right down in the middle of a hornet's nest, an' that country sure feels like a mighty good imitation o' one, ever since Rob Mallory shot that nester."
"Kerry's movement sent his glass spinning off the table; he never noticed it. What nester? What you talkin' about?"
"Well," the cowboy smiled apologetically, "some folks says he shot him. Course, some says different. Me, I'm not sayin'—I was just ridin' through, y'un understand?"
Kerry's hands gripped the table-edge. "Will you tell me what this is all about?"
"Why, sure." It took time to extract the story from the man's ramblings, but finally it was clear enough.
"Rob never did it," Kerry said flatly.
"I ain't sayin' he did, friend—"
"He's been called a lot of things—but his worst enemy never called
"Sort of,' Kerry agreed slowly. He pushed back from the table. "I'm going back to the hotel, Rusty."
Rusty made a half-move out of his chair, then dropped back, saying softly, "Sure Kerry. I'll be along later."
When Rusty entered the dingy hotel room, a couple of hours after, the air was blue and stale with the smoke of cigarettes, and Kerry was sitting on the edge of the bed, with the drawn look of a man who has been through a long, tough fight—and perhaps he had—but with a look of peace in his blue eyes that hadn't been there in a long time.
"Rusty," he began without preliminaries, "you've been a swell partner, but I guess this is where the trail splits."
"How come, Kerry?"
"I'm going back to Broken Spur."
"Well, sure, if your friend's in trouble. Don't you reckon he could use an extra hand?"
"You don't understand, Rusty. I know the set-up there. This Tim Larrabee's a crazy nothead, and he'll have all the other nesters on the prod—I've got to go back," Kerry added wearily. "Rob raised me from a pup. He took me in when I didn't have any place to go—there's some things you just can't ride away from. But it's not your fight. There's no reason why you should buy into our troubles—"
Rusty shrugged. "You know me an' trouble, Kerry. All these years I been tryin' to stay away from it, it never got me nowhere. It mostly ain't my light," he concluded resignedly. "But I generally wind up in the middle of it, anyway. Might be kind of an interestin' change to start cut in the middle."
Kerry turned away and busied himself with stuffing a few belongings into his warbag. He didn't trust himself to speak just then—and he didn't want Rusty to see his eyes. There was a wetness in them that didn't belong in the eyes of a man who'd just that day come of age.
