Mrs. Kreitzer May Go for $64,000 Television Quiz Jackpot Tonight A UNITED PRESS EXTRA By H. D. QUIGG United Press Staff Correspondent NEW YORK — Mrs. Catherine Kreitzer, the Bible quiz whiz who may go for $64,000 tonight, can be stumped. I did it, without even trying. The innocent question that she couldn't answer proves that although she has surmounted some memory ticklers—she can trip over a familiar quotation that is, one that starts out by being familiar. I did it, without even trying. The innocent question that she couldn't answer proves that although she has surmounted some memory ticklers—she can trip over a familiar quotation (that is, one that starts out by being familiar). It was during an interview. Mrs. Kreitzer, a grandmother with quick brown eyes and with a tiny bit of gray creeping into her hair just above her forehead, said she hadn't any idea what she'd do with the prize money she may get on the TV quiz show "$64,000 question." "We're not bad off financially," she said, and indicated she was not overly interested in the prize money. "A good name is rather to be desired than great riches," I aid, quoting (I thought accurately) from the Bible. "You mean, '...rather to be chosen than great riches,'" she said, correcting my quotation. "What is the rest of that proverb, something about 'silver and gold,' isn't it?" I asked, idly curious rather than trying to test her. Says She Doesn't Know Mrs. Kreitzer frowned in thought for a moment and then said she didn't know. A check of the Bible later showed that the complete sentence (Proverbs 22:1) goes: "A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favor rather than silver and day. She has won $32,000 by answering nine questions about the Bible during three sessions of the show. Tonight she will say whether she will take the $32,000 or risk losing it by trying for the 10th, $64,000 question. Missing the question wuld bring her only a consolation prize of a Cadillac convertible. She and her husband, James, who live with one of their six grown sons on their eight-acre farm one mile south of Harrisburg, Pa., already have a 1952 Ford and an International truck. They grow peaches, pears, plums, apricots and have two acres in corn. Not A Church Member Mrs. Kreitzer is not a church member. Her mother, who is dead, and her $2-year-old father, Joseph Bucher, belonged to the Church of God, she said. Asked about a report that she belonged to the United Brethren denomination, she said, rather sternly: "My name is on no church roll. You can say that I did belong to the United Brethren—period." Mrs. Kreitzer, 54, explained why she got a job as a typist five years ago at the Mechanisburg, Pa., naval supply depot: "The kids all-grew up. I'd get up in the morning and get the house cleaned in a couple of hours—and just sit there. So I went out and got me a job. I didn't have to." She makes about $3,000 a year. Her husband makes about $3,500 Grove Man Brings Suit Against Packing House SANTA ANA (OCNS)—The Granada Packing House of 133 E. Walnut, Fullerton, was the plaintiff to day in a $5000-plus breach of contract suit filed in Superior Court here against R. W. Christensen or 10911 E. Chapman Ave., Garden Grove. Frank Belmont, packing house operater, claims the defendant be came indebted to him on two occasions in 1953-for $515.71 and $491.15. Neither amount nor sever per cent interest has been paid the plaintiff asserts. Belmont also alleges he entered into a written contract with the defendant whereby he was to handle Christensen's valencia or ange five-acre crop, the defendant failed to comply with terms of the agreement, according to the plaintiff, and he is out $4000. Anaheim City Council Slates Meet Tonight Anaheim City Council will meet today at 7 p.m. in the Council Chambers of the City Hall. Several items will be presented for public hearing, including the East Sycamore Annexation and the General Assessment for sewage pipe constructed in the southeast portion of the city. Several others items, not yet definitely a part of the agenda, might receive City Council consideration as the variance to construct a church by the Assembly of Good Church on the northwest corner of East and Wilhelmina streets; the concrete dividing strip on Harbor Boulevard where it passes Disneyland and a variance to construct a dentist's office on the southeast corner of Water and Palm streets. "What is the rest of that proverb, something about 'silver and gold,' isn't it?" I asked, idly curious rather than trying to test her. Says She Doesn't Know Mrs. Kreitzer frowned in thought for a moment and then said she didn't know. A check of the Bible later showed that the complete sentence (Proverbs 22:1) goes: "A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favor rather than silver and gold." Her inability to complete the proverb shows her armor of learning can be pierced by a type of question that's somewhat common of quiz shows. Mrs. Kreitzer, who has been exposed to the Bible since she was five, tries to read from it each day. We Rent & Sell HOSPITAL BEDS WHEEL CHAIRS All Sick Room Supplies MEDICAL APPLIANCE 124 E. Gerald A. Finicle, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lornz Finiel, 626 Boxwood, was found by police lying semi-conscious in the roadway above the park duck pond. Witnesses said he was running down the hill, was unable to stop, and toppled over the embankment. He was given emergency treatment and released. Her husband makes about $3,500 as a carpenter. If she should decide to keep the $32,000, their year's income would be around $38,500. If they filed a joint return, their tax would be about $12,500, according to accountants. If she wins the $64,000, their income would be $75,500 and their joint federal tax would be about $31,700. If they wanted to give to charity the full 20 per cent allowed on the federal income tax return, they could cut their tax to about $8,600 on the lesser income and to $23,116 on the greater. Flying Saucer Reported Off Newport Beach NEWPORT BEACH (OCNS)—Report of a "flying saucer" seen seven miles off Newport Beach was made to U.S. Coast Guard Saturday at 2:30 p.m. by George Washington of San Bernardino, Washington was in his boat the Lucky II when he said he saw the saucer. He described the thing as round gray white in color with a fume tall on both sides. He said it was turning on its axis. The Coast Guard sent a plane to investigate but the pilot said he was unable to see the object Washington radioed back to the Coast Guard at 2:46 p.m. that the saucer disappeared into the clouds. He said it was flying at about 2000 to 2500 feet when first observed. The Coast Guard said they had no other reports of the object.
