Open Great World Theater This Friday
The Great World Theater opens Thursday for a seven night production at the Chapman college in Orange. Dates are July 8, 9, 10, 15, 16, 17 and 22 with curtain time set for 8:30 p.m.
"The Great World Theater" is a 17th century classic written by Calderon de la Barca. During the hour and a half of the play, the story tells of a man acting out his role on earth before the eyes of God. Based on the theme of "All the world's a stage," the message of the masterpiece is timeless. The lines, though 300 years old, seem to be written for the world today.
Campus Staging
The play will be staged in the front of Chapman college in Orange with the administration building and the classical scenery of the campus as a background. Elaborate lighting has been installed to give the necessary effects and, for the first time on any outdoor stage in Southern California, stereophonic sound will be used. A cast of over 100 actors, all interested volunteer actors from Orange County, will be involved in this gigantic production.
All seats for the seven performances are reserved and seats are priced at $1.10, $1.65 and $2.20.
Tickets may be bought at the college any day of the performance or any day at the Orange Community Chamber of Commerce or at the Anaheim SQR Store. Baton Music Store; Fullerton Music Store; La Habra Hardware; Mission Drug and Delmar Pharmacy in Garden Grove, Rexall Drug at Yorba Linda.
Bal D'Elegance Ovations Salute Stokowski
Appointment of Leopold Stokowski as music director and conductor of the Pacific Coast Music Festival will be saluted at the Bal d'Elegance, July 8 at the Coral Casino of Santa Barbara's Blitmore hotel.
Invitations are out to select music-loving society leaders from coast to coast for the white tie and red carpet affair which will contribute to the success of America's newest symphony orchestra.
In addition to the four Stokowski concerts to be held on the weekends of Sept. 10-11 and Sept. 17-18, a full week of musical and artistic events is planned by the Pacific Coast Music Festival association.
Final arrangements have been completed for evenings of outstanding chamber music by the famous Paganini Quartet booked for two performances, and the Musart Quartet for another.
