Haymes' Lawyers Must Prove Good Moral Character
HOLLYWOOD (UP)—Attorneys for crooner Dick Haymes had two weeks today in which to seek dismissal of a deportation order against the singer by supplying proof of good moral character.
An immigration service examiner said at the end of Haymes' deportation re-hearing yesterday that the singer might apply for retroactive discretionary relief which would have the effect of eliminating the deportation order.
The singer's attorneys were given two weeks in which to file documentary evidence of good moral character and then both the government and the defense had 10 days more to file briefs.
The re-hearing was ordered by an appeal board after Richard Cody, a former immigration investigator here, said district immigration director Herman Landon told him not to warn Haymes he might be excluded if he went to Hawaii.
Landon appeared at yesterday's session and denied he knowingly failed to warn Haymes he might be deportable, if he took the Hawaiian trip last spring to woo film star Rita Hayworth, now Haymes' wife.
Under the McCarran-Walter act, Haymes left himself subject to deportation in leaving the United States because he sought draft exemption as a alien from a neutral country, Argentina, during World War II.

"On 27th June, 1954, the atomic energy power station began working and producing electric current for industry and agriculture in the neighboring region," the Moscow broadcast said.

Two sections each, showing the complete Hollywood Freeway and Arroyo Seco Parkway are included as well as the completed section of the Harbor Freeway and an enlargement of the complicated Los Angeles interchange or "clover leaf."
There are also eight photographs, supplied by the Traffic Services Division of the Los Angeles Police Department, showing important signs drivers should look for when entering the interchange.

Final official check of votes today showed Hirstein with 2191 ballots to 2190 for Marks. The latter held an 8-vote edge when the unofficial election tallies were revealed the day following the June primary.
