South-Roberts Romance Culminates in Nuptials at St. Boniface Church
Summer contrast of white and red was the detail identified with the South-Roberts wedding Saturday morning at St. Boniface Catholic church when Miss Helen South walked to the sanctuary altar to be claimed by her bridegroom, James Richard Roberts. Baskets filled to overflowing with huge white gladioli, shaggy hybrid Shasta daisies and red carnations flanked the altar with only altar candles burning throughout the double ring ceremony. Officiant was the Rev. Father Patrick Pearce with the nuptials read at ten o'clock in the presence of more than 400 relatives and friends.
The bride was a vision of loveliness as she said her vows, her father, Leonard South, giving her in marriage. She wore a gown of delicate Chantilly lace, the basque bodice having a low rounded neckline formed by the scallops of the lace. Sleeves of the gown were long with the full skirt falling softly over a bouffant under dress of the nylon tulle designed with two ruffles at the floor hemline. Back of the skirt had an artistic detail of "millions" of tiny ruffles with the sides of lace skirt front caught to the ruffled portion of the gown. A pearled cloche held her filmy veil to her dark hair and a single strand of pearls was her jewelled adornment. She carried a white orchid, set among stephanotis, atop her white bound prayer book.
Dedicates a Flower
As the ceremony concluded the bride stepped over to the Blessed Mother statuary, dedicated and placed a single white carnation at the feet of the "Mother." Another sentiment was the treasured handkerchief tucked into her bridal ensemble. It had belonged to her grandmother deceased who carried it on her wedding day.
Mrs. Barbara Koonz of Los Angeles, sister of the bride, was mald of honor with Mrs. Garth Menges of Anaheim, another sister; Mrs. John Wright of Anaheim, Mrs. Dan Berg of Los Alamitos and Mrs. Tom O'Brien, sister of the bridegroom, here from Portland, Ore., as bridesmaids.
from her bridal bouquet was pinned to her ensemble.
Romance of Couple
Romance of the young couple, who both attended St. Boniface Grade school, started on the Anaheim High school campus, their Alma Mater. The bridegroom, who is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Loren G. Roberts of 933 North Claudina St., later attended Santa Ana College. He is now employed with Nicholas South and Company.
The young couple will be at home to their friends after July 4 at 623 North Philadelphia St.
