County Federation Gives Outstanding Awards to Clubs Orange County Federation of Women's clubs summer conference at San Clemente recently, Mrs. E. W. Reed of Seal Beach presiding; honored clubs for outstanding accomplishments during the past year. Art award went to Garden Grove Woman's club as well as first in drama with the Anahim Ebell club taking second place in drama. Both poetry awards went to Orange Woman's club with Seal Beach club earning the youth conservation award, second going to Barber City. Garden Grove also received the legislation award at the recent state convention in Fresno. Other interesting program events were reports with three minute talks on work of the past year given by major chairmen. Mrs. Dessie Rodebaugh stated that Orange County was one of the best equipped counties and was ready for Defense disasters. Mrs. Marion Spencer spoke on her work as advisor to the County Junior clubs, and Mrs. W. L. Harbert read a letter from Clinton H. Wright showing the many places the Narcotic film had been shown. County board meetings will be Sept. 10, at Costa Mesa, Nov. 12, Newport Beach; February 11, Anaheim Ebell; April 8, County convention will be at Orange, and June 10 at Garden Grove. President's breakfasts are scheduled Oct. 8 at Yorba Linda, Jan. 14, Huntington Beach; March 11, Fullerton; May 13, Buena Park. Degrees of Bachelor of Arts will be conferred upon 330 women and men by Santa Barbara college of the University of California at commencement exercises to be held Saturday, June 19 at 4 p.m. The graduation ceremony will be the last one held in the picturesque setting around the pool of the Riviera campus quadrangle. In August the college moves from the 40-year-old site to its new 408-acre seashore campus located ten miles up the coast, near Goleta. Robert Gordon Sproul, president of the University of California, will confer the 330 BA degrees. Santa Barbara College Provost J. Harold Williams will preside at the exercises. Receiving diplomas will be seniors who completed their academic work last February this June and at the conclusion of the summer session in August. Candidates for the Bachelor of Arts from the University of California, Santa Barbara college from Anaheim area with the major field of study are: Richard J. Du Bois, 7921 South Liberty Lane, industrial arts; Robert A. Hahn, 1801 East Vermont Ave., industrial arts; Mary Ellen Whitney, 522 South Ohio St., physical education. Sally Palmer opened with recital with two compositions by Thompson, "Mazurka" and "The Cuckoo." Diane Cave, the student artist from Anaheim, playing Bach-Maiers' "Allgro from the trio in D Minor" and "Lo, Now a Rose Appeareth," Brahms - Kraemer; and "Rondo in D Major," Weber-Luboshtz. Other Anaheim students presented were Carol Evans playing "Minuetto," Handel; "Hide and Seek" Schytte; Linda Livingston, her numbers — "O Minor Prelude," and "F-Major Mazurka," both by Chopin, Rosalie Flynn played Handel's "Courante" with Virlee Elliott playing "Waltz in A Flat," by Brahms. Janice Troutman was heard in the composition "The Mountain" by Brainard with Susan Reed playing Dett's "Juba Dance" as one of her numbers. "Scherzo in E-Minor" by Mendelssohn was played by Kristen Anderson; "Sequidilla," by Albeniz, Vernon Oelkers, and "Vivace" from "Concerto in D Major," by Haydn, Ann Story's composition. USC to Graduate Ten Anaheim Students Local residents were among the more than 3000 seniors at the University of Southern California honored at formal commencement exercises Saturday at Ajumni Memorial Park on campus. The 71st annual event was presided over by Pres. Fred D. Fagg, Jr. Brig. Gen. David Sarnoff, chairman of the board of the Radio Corporation of America, New York City, have the commencement address following the colorful cap and gown processional of graduates and faculty across the campus. Temple Chapel Choir Ends Year's Program The Chapel choir of White Temple Methodist church closed the year's activity recently with a weiner bake and picnic given by Mrs. Cecil Gray, director at her home. This choir is composed of junior age children and sings regularly each month in the Sunday morning worship service. Included in the happy time at the party was the presentation of a gift to Betty Jean Hock in recognition of her attendance record — not having missed a rehearsal or singing in a worship service for two years.
