Function of Program
The program of Released Time Christian Education is conducted under the auspices of an Interfaith Committee of which Sister Henrietta and Rev. Berthold Jacksteit are the chairmen. The Roman Catholic and Protestant churches work in closest harmony in this project and throughout the year have received the fullest co-operation of the school authorities in their efforts. Both Sister Henrietta and Rev. Jacksteit expressed their appreciation to superintendents Paul Cook and Paul Demaree and to the principals of the several schools for the generous assistance and splendid cooperation they have received from them.
In the Protestant phase of the program over 700 students
of the fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth grades have participated in Released Time Classes during the past year.
Each class meets for one hour during the week. The public schools, with the consent of the parents, dismiss the students for this hour, who, in turn, are taken to the several churches for the purpose of receiving religious instruction. The instruction is non-sectarian and is designed to acquaint the student with the Bible, the life of Christ, the history of the Christian church, the great truths of the Christian faith and to prepare him in general for good citizenship.
Held 23 Classes
During the past year 23 classes for Protestant students met each week. These classes were taught by Mrs. Leola Bowen, Mrs. Helen Colburn, Mrs. Amella Steffens, Rev. Bob Kevorkian and Rev. Berthold Jacksteit. Alex Stark was the driver of the bus that transported the students to the several churches. Lights were turned out for the last time Monday evening in the building that has been sanctuary and Bible school for the members of the Evangelical United Brethren church in Anaheim for 41 years. Fittingly the occasion was the final meeting of the "local conference" of the Church, with District Spt., Dr. O. E. Schaefer presiding. Business was to close the year just ending for the church, to elect certain officials for the next church year, and to make ready reports to send to the Annual Conference of the denomination to be held in Oakland, later this month Sunday morning saw the Bible school presenting the morning program in the church, with promotion to higher grades, and special honor to graduates being given. The property located on the southwest corner of Center and Helena Street has been the home of the Evangelical church in Anaheim since 1884.
The only two living charter members of the church when organized in the year 1882 are William C. Mauerhan, 12322 Kateia Road, Anaheim, and Mrs. Dora Hansen, Orange.
The original church structure was built in that year and served until 1913 when it was moved away to make room for the present building. Operations will begin Tuesday morning to move the buildings off the lot to make way for a new Firestone Tires store. The 41 year old church building will still be used in Christian worship. It is to be moved to Garden Grove by another denomination to house their worship services.
Members and friends of the Evangelical United Brethren congregation are awaiting completion of their new church home on the southeast corner of South Lemon and South streets. The new church

$600,000 Catholic Church in Paris
Catholic Americans in Paris have announced plans to build a church and community center in Paris at a cost of $600,000. This will be the first American Catholic church ever to be built in France in the 177 years that there has been official American representation here.
The new church and community center will be dedicated as a memorial to the thousands of Americans who fell in France during World Wars I and II. It will be built in the Trocadero area, overlooking the Eiffel Tower, on property for which the Committee holds an option. The site includes a large garden plot on which the church will be constructed as soon as sufficient funds are in hand, and a residential building which will be converted into the community center.
Facilities for religious and parish activities of the large Atholie American community in Paris, for sports and social activities for young members of the American colony, meeting rooms and a recory are planned. The architect's plans have been approved, and construction bids are now being sought.
The drive for funds started this May. The appeal will be directed to three groups: Paris American residents and tourists, Catholics serving in the Armed Forces in Europe and Catholics in the United States.
