Most Incumbents Face Runoffs in November (Continued from page 1) P. Graves, a man who never before had tried for public office and who was virtually unknown to the general public although he was familiar to politicians in his role as chief of the League of California Cities. Knight, one of the most active campaigners in politics, concentrated on winning the Democratic bid. But despite the endorsement of the AFL and an intensive campaign in the working class section of Los Angeles, Knight trailed in that vote-heavy metropolitan area by more than 30,000 and ran behind Graves statewide by nearly 100,000 votes. Knight had no trouble, however, in winning his own party's nomination. And he stressed that he got more than twice as many votes as Graves as he predicted an ultimate victory in November. Runoffs also were in prospect for three of the four $14,000 a year posts on the Board of Equalization. In the first district, veteran George Reilly, a Democrat, faced a November challenge from Republican Stuart McClure, a San Francisco newspaperman. Republican James H. Quinn was unopposed in the second district but Paul Leake, the Democratic incumbent in the third, must face Republican Clint Duffey again in five months. Also receiving approval was the reclassification request of Raymond E. Miller, 7861 Aoacia St., for the rezoning of the northwest corner of Acacia street and East La Palma avenue, from R-A to R-1. The third to receive the Council's nod was the petition of Mrs. Lucile L. Lewis of Los Angeles who asked that the triangular piece of property bounded by Gilbert street, West La Palma avenue and Manchester Blvd., be rezoned from R-A to M-1, light manufacturing zone. This is the property on which the Carnation Milk Co. intends to build their Anaheim plant. Enna Jetticks Foot Flairs scbilling's SHOES 11th W.
