Sutliff Hurls No-Hitter as Elks Win
No-hit games are becoming the rule rather than the exception in local softball circles.
Ralph Sutliff tossed the fifth hitless effort of the yet-young campaign as the Anaheim Elks defeated the Magnolia Cobras 3-0, in a City "A" League game at City Park.
Sutliff also contributed two singles to the Elks' attack to share hitting honors with Leon Knoeller.
In other major league scuffles last night, Tony Beltran fired a two-hitter as the Ballman's TVers nipped P & L Transmission, 2-0, in 10 innings, and the Teamsters edged Hall's Drive-In. 3-2.
In "B" League action at Cypress City Park this week, Bob's Super Market drubbed the Cypress VFW.

Seals Extend Winning Streak to Eight Games, But Fail to Gain on Hollywood
By DON THACKREY
United Press Sports Writer
SAN FRANCISCO (UP) The San Francisco Seals made it eight in a row in the Pacific Coast League last night but the Hollywood Stars were still twinkling just beyond the horizon.
The Seals downed bedraggled Portland 3-1 for their longest string since Tommy Heath took over as manager, but the Stars dumped Sacramento 4-1 to remain five and a half games in front.
The San Diego Padres scored a narrow 4-3 victory over Oakland and Los Angeles was rained out at Seattle.
Ironically Heath missed the Seals victory, being ill with insecticide poisoning. A month ago there would have been rumors that the poison was deliberately self-inflicted, but the Seals have changed all that by winning 22 out of 26 and climbing from a disgraceful eighth to a graceful second.
Seals Outbit
The Seals made their eight the hard way being outhit by the Beavers 8-6. But loser Glenn Elliott made their way easier for them by walking three men after two were out in the third inning and then giving up a two-run single to Bob Dipietro.
enth to get Munger any runs, but when they did they got him package of four tallies that prove more than sufficient. Munger came out for a pinch hitter during the rally.
Chet Johnson was the loser, getting up eight of the 10 Hollywood hits.
Bases Full
Bob Elliott hit a long sacrifice fly with the bases full in the bottom of the eighth to break a 3 tie and give San Diego its third victory over Oakland this week. The win pulled the Padres within a half game of the third place Acorns.
Dick Faber provided two of San Diego's runs with the only home run of the night in the whole league.
Oakland, a study in frustration banged out 15 hits but left 14 runners abandoned to their fates as the Pads took advantage of the nine safeties.
Chris Van Cuyk was the loser and Cliff Chambers picked up his win, although needing help to go through the ninth frame.

Red Murger methodically cut down the Sacramento Solons to win his seventh game in a row since losing his first start.

More Than Honesty
The office of County Treasurer in Orange County is one of tremendous responsibility.
There is responsibility for the safe-keeping of millions of dollars in public funds.
However, it is not merely a question of being honest and trustworthy in accounting for this huge fund.
A County Treasurer must have more than honesty. That isn't enough.
A part of his great responsibility is the wise handling of public money, to make it yield as much as possible in earnings, rather than leave it idle in the treasury.
The County Treasurer, therefore should have wide experience in high-level finance.
