Everett Hails 'Three-R' Trend In School Voting
A survey of the results of local School Board elections held within the past two weeks in many communities throughout the state demonstrates, according to David B. Everett, educator and candidate
California public schools.
Typical of such California communities, Everett points out, is Palos Verdes. Of three School Board vacancies, the voters there elected two strongly "Three R's" candidates, and one uncommitted. Palos Verdes had not elected a "Three R's" advocate to the School Board during the past 15 years.
Another typical instance is the city of Lawndale, heretofore regarded as strongly "progressive"; all three vacancies on the School Board were filled by the election of "Three R's" candidates.
The story is repeated. Everett points out, in community after community in all parts of the state. For the first time in many years, the system imposed on them the top." Under California Code regulations, he points "the State Superintendent of Public Instruction has virtual access from the aroused vote their districts."
Talks With Parents
"This trend can only be preted," Everett said, "as pudiation by the voters and participation of this state, of the 'progressive' system prescribed for our state under the administration of the cumbent State Superintendent Roy E. Simpson."
"During the past several weeks he went on, 'I have met and ed with literally thousands of fornia parents in all parts of state. What they have told about their experience with gressive' education—its failure properly educate the young its emphasis on play and projects' rather than on learning its lack of discipline and, consequently, its heavy response for the sharp rise in juvenile linquency; its deriding of pride while propagandizing for world-ism or some other 'ism of these serious protests at the Simpson' system have convinced me that the people are up with the sham of 'progressive' education'. They now demand complete change, in our Californi public school system."
Hits System
"As things now stand," Everett explained, "the only choice we ent has, whose child is not given an education in the public school which has not adopted 'progressive' system. But parents can't afford public schools; and, furthermore, we entitled to get the finest education from our public schools; we support with hundreds of millions of dollars of tax funds year."
Everett, a 39-year-old editor and educational administrator emphasized in his campaign "it is not the fault of the teachers that our public schools such deplorable condition; the system imposed on them the top." Under California Code regulations, he points "the State Superintendent of Public Instruction has virtual access from the aroused vote their districts."
A survey of the results of local School Board elections held within the past two weeks in many communities throughout the state demonstrates, according to David B. Everett, educator and candidate for the non-partisan office of State Superintendent of Public Instruction, that there is a rising tide of parental revolt against the so-called "progressive" educational system which has long been used in candidates, and one uncommitted. Palos Verdes had not elected a "Three R's" advocate to the School Board during the past 15 years.

The story is repeated, Everett points out, in community after community in all parts of the state. For the first time in many years, School Board candidates, who in their campaigns strongly opposed continuance of the so-called "progressive" system, and who favored re-institution of the "Three R's", won over-whelming endorsement.

Local Delco Plant Now in Production
The new Delco Battery plant at Anaheim, a unit of the Delco-Remy Division of General Motors, now is in production and plans are moving forward for gradual increases in schedules throughout the summer months. GM officials announced here this week.
S. E. Skinner, Vice President of General Motors with group executive responsibility for all GM accessory operations, H. D. Dawson, Delco-Remy General Manager, and H. J. Staggenburg, Assistant Manager of Delco Battery Operations visited the newly opened manufacturing unit, viewing plant facilities and conferring with R. A. Daily, Resident Plant Manager.
Employment in the new organization will increase as rapidly as new people can be absorbed and trained. Daily indicated. The plan is expected to give employment to approximately 400 people when full production is reached.
Now in production are both 6-volt and 12-volt batteries for passenger cars. Dawson revealed, indicating that the plant ultimately will produce original equipment.
