BRIDAL RECEPTION—Mr. and Mrs. John Kenneth Dees, nee Carol Davenport, were honored at a bridal reception held in the J. F. Davenport home. (Charles Dees photo) Carolyn Davenport, John K. Dees Wed; Reception Honors Held in Davenport Home About a hundred and fifty guests attended a reception honoring Mr. and Mrs. John Kenneth Dees, formerly Carolyn Davenport, at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Davenport, 525 North Vine St. Following the tradition of bridal couples, Mr. and Mrs. Dees cut and shared the first slice of the wedding cake which centered the reception table. The confection was three-tiered and flanked by nylon tulle hearts bearing the inspiration, "Carolyn and John." Alcove to the room was arranged in likeness to a bower with wedding bells and satin bows. For this lovely affair the bride chose an ice blue oriental silk informal dress, her corsage fash- Mrs. George Camp of Ontario, and Mrs. Daisy W. Reese of Fullerton, grandmother of the bride. Give Wedding Details The young couple said their vow in the Norwalk church with the Rev. Nyal D. Royse of Hollywood, Southwest Church of Christ, and Anaheim Council of Parent Four New Associations on Magnolia and the newly formed Thomas Jefferson, Centralia and W accepted into the Anaheim Council members of the association, introduce Presiding as presidents of these as Thomas Edison; Mrs. William Todd, Centralia; Mrs. Ivan Mahaffie, Western Junior High; and Mrs. Verner Neher, Magnolia. Joe Thompson, newly elected board member of the Anaheim Elementary school district spoke on the bond issue to be voted on June 16 by the voters of Anaheim School district. Thompson said, "The superintendent and board of the elementary school district, wish to thank every person for their effort and support on this issue." In outlining the work done so far, Thompson continued, "Through the organization of a speakers program and the effort of capable speakers, complete information about the bond issue has been presented to the associations. Seven thousand brochures in question and answer form, will be distributed. Telephone committees have been organized by the council and transportation will be provided those in need of it. It will be up to the presidents of the schools to see that their own voting members have knowledge of where to vote." Standing with the bridal couple as they received their hosts of guests, were their parents and Miss Nancy Zehnpennig, bridesmaid who served at the wedding in the Church of Christ, Norwalk. Name Hostesses Assisting in reception hostessing were Mrs. Kermeth R. McDonald of Laguna Beach, sister of the bride, who served the cake; Miss Mary Schlagenhauff, presiding at the punch bowl and Mrs. Kenneth Cutright, sister of the bridegroom, pouring coffee. Inviting guests to sign the bride's book was Miss Roberta Lee. Aunts of the bride and bridegroom were hostesses for the affair. They were Mrs. Winifred Craig of Olney, Tex.; Mrs. Fred Reese of Hermosa Beach, Mrs. M. A. Thomas of La Mesa, Mrs. George Camp of Ontario, and Mrs. Daisy W. Reese of Fullerton, grandmother of the bride. Give Wedding Details The young couple said their vows in the Norwalk church with the Rev. Nyal D. Royse of Hollywood, Southwest Church of Christ, and friend of the bride's family for many years, officiating in the double ring rites. The couple were attended by Miss Nancy Zehnpennig, as bridesmaid and John C. Burke, best man. The bride wore a white hand-knit suit trimmed in seed pearls, made by her mother. Her corsage was fashioned from garnet rose buds with a white gardenia center. Immediate relatives of the two families witnessed the ceremony. Later the bridal couple left on the Yosemite honeymoon trip. Deep sentiment marked the place of the marriage as the bride, a native of Anaheim, has lived in the house during her entire life. She is a graduate of Anaheim schools and will graduate from Fullerton Junior college this June. Her bridegroom, son of the Barney Dees of Bellflower district, and graduate of Excelsior High, entered the Armed Forces while attending FJC. He was on convalescent leave from Letterman General hospital, San Francisco, to attend the reception. Bulletin Want Ads Bring Results Business for the day opened with the pledge of allegiance by Mrs. Sam Morgan and the thought for the day by Mrs. Marion Henry. Of great interest was the Histories report narrated by Mrs. Arthur Korn. Mrs. Hatfield stressed the immediate need of a workshop for executive officers and chairman with a meeting set for Friday, June 11 in the Anaheim City Park, beginning at 9:30 a.m. Of news to mothers with preschool children was the assurance that there will be a nursery care provided at all future council meetings. ANAHEIM, CA CONVENIENT CREDIT A Gappella Singers Set Spring Concert In a public performance, the Fullerton Junior College A Cappella choir will present its annual spring concert in the high school auditorium at 8:15 p.m. Friday. No admission will be charged. Principal feature of the concert will be a performance of "The Telephone", one act opera with only two characters. Andrea Williams of Orange, soprano, and John Greenville of Garden Grove, baritone, are the principals. Both are members also of the choir. Soloists with the Choir are Marion Caracausa of Anaheim and Margie Weber of Fullerton; sopranos. Both Margie and Marion appeared recently in the Blue and Gold variety show. Margie recently played the lead role in "The Robe", annual spring play. Marion portrayed the crippled boy in the title role of "Amahl and the Night Visitors", Christmas opera. Composer of "The Telephone" is Gian Carlo Menotti, also composer of "Amahl", recent Christmas offering of the local schools, and several other operas that have been highly successful on Broadway in the past few years. Miss Angel Kraemer, Placentia, a junior, and Miss Delores Wingate, Orange, sophomore, merited certificates of eminent merit, maxima cum laude. Four girls, the Misses Raylene Bartholomae, Brea, junior; Shirley Schmitz, Anaheim, senior; Arlene Barnes, Fullerton, sophomore; and Shirley Jamison, Anaheim, sophomore, won certificates of superior merit, magna cum laude. The certificate of honorable merit, cum Jaude, was achieved by eight girls; the Misses Rosalie Anaheim, junior; Donna May, Anaheim, junior; Patricia Nolan, Orange, junior; Darlene Schafer, La Habra, sophomore; Jacqueline Lampher, Anaheim, sophomore Stephanie Winsor, Bethel, Alaska, sophomore; Lois Schweitzer, Anaheim, freshman, and Barbara May, Anaheim, freshman. Approximately 23,000 Latin students from a wide scope of territory, United States Canada, Alaska Mexico, Puerto Rico Hawaii South America Cuba, and Bermuda participated in this test. Six FJC Students Collect $1,650 in 1954-55 Scholarships Through receiving scholarships, six Fullerton Junior College students have been given a boost in their educational plans, garnering $1650 among them. The students are Marilyn Basinger and Don Edmond of La Habra. Fred Head of Anaheim. Shirley Franklin of Fullerton. Robert Freeman of Placentia, and Charlene Skinner of Whitier. Alden of 800 Kenway announce the marriage of their daughter, Mary JoAnne to Col. James Wallace Griffis, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Griffis of Palos Verdes and Miami, Fla. Marriage rites were said at Las Vegas by the young couple on May 21 with the Rev. Albert Melton of the Congregational church officiating. Colonel and Mrs. Griffis are making their present home at 633 Ave J-8. Lancaster, where the bridegroom is temporarily stationed at Edwards Field as a jet pilot. They expect to leave for Europe this June on a three-year assignment. Mrs. Griffis is a graduate of Anaheim High school and University of Southern California where she was affiliated with Alpha Omicron Phi sorority and Zeta Phi Eta, the latter the national dramatic fraternity. She has been employed with Pan - Tech at Lido Isle. Her bridegroom is a West Point graduate. Through receiving scholarships, six Fullerton Junior College students have been given a boost in their educational plans, garnering $1650 among them. Edmond, an engineering mjaor, has received a $300 "State of California" scholarship to the University of California at Berkeley. He attended Manual Arts High School, Los Angeles, where he was a "B" letterman in basketball. At FJC he is a member this year of the state championship Hornet basketball team. Head, a graduate of Anaheim Union High school, is a history major at Fullerton Junior college. He has accepted a $250 scholarship to Whittier college, after turning down another at Redlands. At FJC he is a member of Alpha Gamma Sigma, honor scholarship society. Shirley Franklin has been awarded a $50 scholarship by the Rho Chapter, Delta Kappa Gamma, honor fraternity for women in education. A graduate of Fullerton High school, she is a Spanish major at FJC and intends to continue in the same field at UCLA. A major in veterinary medicine. Freeman has receivd a $300 "State of California" scholarship to the Davila branch of the University of California. He is president this year of Alpha Gamma Sigma, scholarship society, at FJC. From Whittier college, Charlene Skinner has received a $500 state Alpha Gamma Sigma scholarship.
