Chickens, Rabbits Will Bolster Family Income
SANTA ANA—Ever think of raising chickens and rabbits to help bolster the family income and provide food for your table? If you have you're on the right track according to Assistant Farm Advisor H. W. Longfellow.
He said that two does and a buck raise enough rabbit meat for a family of four; average will be about 200 pounds of meat per year.
To do it you'll have to feed them five pounds of feed for every pound of meat produced, he said. Home-grown greens such as grass clippings, alfalfa and barley can be used to supplement the pellets, basic feed.

Cliff May’s ‘Magazine Cover Home’ To Be Featured at Home Exposition
Designer Cliff May's famed "Magazine Cover Home" has been selected as the home of the year at the Los Angeles home show scheduled for the Pan Pacific Auditorium for June 10 through 29, it was announced today.
Already available in five different Orange County locations and being built here in this area by George M. Holstein and Sons, the May home will be built in its entirety at the show and will be on display for the 100,000 visitors expected to attend.
The same home, builder Holstein explained, is now on display on the Santa Ana Freeway near Ball Road in Anaheim and at 17th and Fullerton avenue in Costa Mesa. The homes will be built in Anaheim, Cost Mesa, Tustin and Santa Ana.
Already acclaimed by a score of leading magazines, May's designs feature the ultimate in indoor-outdoor living and include many of the features found in the May ranch homes built at the cost of $100,000 and more. The “Magazine Cover Home,” however, is priced at less than $12,500, the builder stressed.

Million-Dollar Baptist University to Be Built
LOS ANGELES (UP)—Construction on the first three units of a $50,000,000 Baptist university in the San Fernando Valley will begin this fall, it was announced today.
Latest move toward realization of the new educational institution was donation of a 100-acre campus site in Tarzana.
The land deed was presented to the university by Arthur A. Deser, attorney and vice president of the Los Angeles Daily News, and Harold B. Garfield, member of the state Board of Pharmacy. The two men said they recently obtained the gift land at a cost of $400,000 through George Seay, a Santa Monica real estate broker, who also is a member of the executive board of the university.
Could average 50 eggs weekly in spring and early summer; there will be fewer eggs during the rest of the year, and the hens will eat just the same.
Best idea, Longfellow said, is to start with day-old chicks; about 80 will be needed; cull all but 20 layers by putting the rest in the pot.

For Full Enjoyment Of Your Lot,
Construct A Trouble-Free Fence
Getting maximum livability from a home requires using every part of the lot—and that, in most cases, requires fencing for protection and privacy. The photo and drawing below show one highly effective method, recommended by Home Modernizing magazine, for making a fence trouble-free. Angle-iron posts are set in a concrete foundation, which prevents animals from digging under it. Fence can be built in sections before it is bolted to the posts.
