RESCUE EFFORTS FAIL—The efforts of three fellow Innenmen using artificial respiration to revive Joseph Lloyd, 30, as he hung from his safety belt proved futile. Lloyd accidently touched a 4800-volt power line while working atop a 45-foot pole at San Fernando, Cal. He was pronounced dead on arrival at hospital.

Fullerton VFW Plans Chapman Home Buy
FULLERTON, (OCNS) — Officers of the Veterans of Foreign Wars started negotiations to purchase the old Chapman home on Commonwealth and Cypress Avenue this morning with plans to turn it into a meeting place for the VFW and other clubs.
Representatives of the VFW met with C. Stanley Chapman, and officials of the Abner Construction Company, subdividers of the historic C. C. Chapman ranch property.
Terms of the sale are not complete, but members said the sale would probably be made at $16,500 for the huge three-story home and three lots.
Vice Commander André Reynolds said the home when repaired will be dedicated as a memorial to C. C. Chapman, first mayor of Fullerton, and to the men who have died in the service of their country.
Members of the VFW voted unanimously at a meeting last week to grant their commander, Orin Mannwarren, and Quartermaster Ardath Long the authority to complete the purchase of the home.
City councilmen at their last meeting agreed to rezone the area from R-1 to R-3 if the VFW purchased the home. Architect Steve Bradford, representing the Abner Corporation, which requested the zone change, told the lawmakers that the purchase would include three lots for off street parking next to the building.

Orange Names Planning Group
ORANGE, (OCNS) — A new Orange Planning Commission was functioning today after appointment of members was hiked onto the tail end of a City Council meeting Tuesday night.
Surprise reappointees were J. T. McGinnis, whose resignation was accepted May 11, and H. D. Bryant whose resignation was submitted last week and accepted Tuesday night.
New faces on the commission will be James Gable, principal of West Orange School, replacing Frank Katnik for a three-year term which began Jan., 1952, and Fred Krohe, retired tire shop owner who replaces Hugo Lembcke for a three-year term in effect Jan. 27, 1953.
Only commission member who did not submit his resignation was Lembcke, who stated Monday evening that he "planned to stay on."
However the long-time planning commissioner was removed from office Tuesday night on a motion that the city clerk notify Lembcke in writing of his removal from office.
This action followed the council's acceptance of the resignations of Bryant and Katnik, which had been submitted in writing and the sudden verbal resignation of councilman A. D. Edwards who represented the council on the planning commission.
Edwards expressed his desire to resign in "order that the commission might be reorganized," and this left only Lembcke still on the commission.
It was then that the motion was made that a letter be sent Lembcke notifying him of his removal from the commission.
The council then moved to other business and it was not until the very end of the meeting that Mayor E. J. Bandick named a new planning commission.

Anaheim Housewife Wins Kitchen Range
It was a surprised Anaheim housewife who was notified this week that she was the proud winner of a new model O'Keefe and Merritt automatic gas range from the Hub Furniture Co. during their grand opening this week.
Mrs. Dorothy Gorley, 217 Caro-lyn Way, was notified by store officials that she was the winner in a 10-store drawing held in the Montebello branch of the popular Southern California furniture chain. Residents of Anaheim and other cities had registered at the various Hub stores for the handsome award with Mrs. Gorley being named grand prize winner.
