Salvation Army Winds Up Salvage Drive This Week A special fleet of Salvation Army Red Shield trucks is calling at Anaheim homes this week to collect castoff articles which local residents are contributing in the annual Salvage Week campaign. The drive will continue through Saturday. The out-of-use articles will be reconditioned in workshops of the Salvation Army Social Center which serves this area, providing food, shelter and financial aid to men who are unable to obtain employment in private industry because of their handicaps. These men during the past year were given a record high of 281,640 hours of occupational therapy, 58,704 meals and 19,092 lodgings through a social rehabilitation program which is maintained solely by the castoff articles. In addition, thousands of dollars worth of food, clothing and household articles went directly to needy families. The center continuously needs discarded but still usable clothing, shoes, furniture, bedding, dishes, toys, stoves, radios, appliances, bric-a-brac, bicycles, rugs, rags and miscellaneous articles to continue the program. Local residents who have not yet contributed are urged to telephone Keystone 5-5631 to bring a Red Shield truck. McCoy Drug Co. 100 W PH K Prison Last Stop In Tour of Bad Check Writer SANTA ANA—A man who admitted he cashed $6000 worth of bad checks to finance a four-state tour today was headed for Chino State prison—the last stop in his tour. William Verdo Johnson pleaded guilty to one count of passing a fictitious check and asked Judge Robert Gardner to sentence him immediately to prison when he appeared in Orange County Superior Court. Although Johnson conceded he had obtained approximately $6000 on bad checks to finance his tour of California, Texas, Arizona and New Mexico—he had the services of a public defender because he was broke. Johnson, a plumber by trade, did not have a criminal record before he started his check-writing spree. His wife and family live in Palm Springs.
