Student Production of Tops of Pops Hailed as Outstanding Presentation
Demonstrating the talent of students in the music department at Anaheim High school, the "Tops of the Pops" performances Friday and Saturday nights received top commendation from the audiences. Completely student arranged and directed and supervised by Sheldon Dislud, head of the voice department, the show moved with interest and dash from the opening number in the Gay Nineties set to th finale, "Beyond the Blue Horizon," sung by the Mozart and A Cappella choirs.
Favorites for festivals, church gatherings and other programs, starting with that famed number re-arranged for motion pictures, "The Trolley Song," took the capacity audiences with the performers in these familiar melodies. The show, presented in fashion of a Mardi Gras, was colorful and spirited, combining the cultural arts in music and dance for this first big success in this type of production at AUHS.
"The Band Played On," "In the Good Old Summertime," "Meet Me in St. Louis," these were a few of the "openers" which caught the audience enthusiasm on the first curtain.
Typical to the name, songs of the War I and II periods, flapper days including: the catchy tune, "Ain't She Sweet," and one still popular with the first raing of the springtime, "Singin' in the Rain," were presented.
Intermission Friday night introduced the surprise of the evening, the crowning of the Mari Gras King and Queen, Bill Baldridge and Rosetta Smith, who reigned the two nights of the extravaganza.
The walling tones from saxo-stamp of approval placed on this show.
Orchestra direction was under the baton of Bill Cook, head of the instrumental department of AUHS. Student director praise went to Yvonne Fitz and Ben Mattox with Ron Browne heading routines for the dance numbers. Mike Gerber was student instrumental director with Mike Troop and Edith Fredericks, in charge of art and stage department. Diane Coons coached the king and queen.

Stock Market Moderately Active
NEW YORK (UP) — Specialty issues featured a generally mixed and moderately active stock market today.
Gains in the specialties ranged to more than a point. Industrial shares lost most of their buoyancy late in the session. At one time, the industrials pushed to further new high ground since Oct. 22, 1929. The rails around mid session reached their best levels since March 27, 1953. However, late in the session they also lost most of their gains and were virtually unchanged.
Despite the late irregularity, the market displayed a strong undertone.
Oil shares as a group tacked on the best gains with Seaboard Oil leading the way. Just before the close it was up 6 points to 130.
Elsewhere, steel shares moved within a narrow range. Motors were mostly lower, but losses here were very small.
HOME BURGLARIZED
