Rails Advance On Stock Market
NEW YORK (UP) — Rail and oil stocks featured a renewed advance on the stock market today.
Rails, with gains of a point or so in issues such as Santa Fe Baltimore & Ohio, Rock Island, Illinois Central, Union Pacific, New Haven, and New York Central, climbed to their best average levels since March 27, 1953.
Industrials, which underwent a brief, sharp reversal just before the close yesterday recovered most of their losses with leading stocks up fractionally and special issues a point or two higher.
Oils were strong spots, with gains ranging to more than two points in Kern County Land and seaboard oil.
Chrysler sparked initial dealings with a gain of a point in active trading, and held most of the rise. New York Central, however, was the active leader. Interest in the stock was renewed as proxies for 800,000 shares of disputed Central stock were turned over to purchasers Clint W. Murchison and Sid W. Richardson, backers of Robert R. Young in the fight for control of the Central by Chase National Bank, under a court order.

East Garden Grove Area Residents May Give Up Fight on Rezoning
GARDEN GROVE — Residents of the east Garden Grove area were undecided, today, whether to reopen their fight to rezone all the boulevard from Ninth St. to Haster St., and rezone Harbor Blvd. from Trask Ave. to Lampson Rd.
They had but a compromise from the board of supervisors, which rejected the Orange County Plannipg Commission recommendedations as well as those advanced by property owners.
Supervisors agreed to rezone only Garden Grove Blvd. on both sides, rejecting the Harbor Blvd. proposals.
Their order applies to the boulevard excepting "at places where there has been residential or multiple - family developments."
Supervisors required a 120-foot setback to provide for the eventual widening of the boulevard. But there was no discussion as to when any road work would be undertaken. It has been talked of for a long time, but there is no concrete plan of action to push it through.
As to rezoning of Harbor Blvd., the supervisors asked for a "precise plan" before the county's planning commission before any decision is made.
Property owners on the east side of Garden Grove reportedly will prepare the precise plan soon for presentation to the commission.
When the rezoning proposal was before the commission, the planners approved business only for the Garden grove - Harbor Blvd. intersection.
North County Voters Face Financial Issues
FULLERTON (OCNS) — When Northern Orange county voters go to the polls in school district elections tomorrow, they will pass on several financing issues.
In Fullerton, voters will approve or reject a $750000 bond issue for construction of new elementary school facilities.
LaHabra voters will pass on a proposed tax increase of 50 cents per $100 assessed valuation for a school expansion program.
Voters at Brea will be asked to vote on a $750,000 bond issue to finance a five to seven - year increase program. The money is earmarked for additions to the grammar school and for the construction of a new elementary school.
In Buena Park, voters can take their choice on the question of increasing the board from three members to five.
A bond issue of $85000 is proposed to voters of the Yorba Linda elementary district.
