At least 22 - year - old Donald Lasswell of Westminster learned that fact rather violently last night. He told California Highway Patrol officers he had just had "three short beers," and that's why he got involved in the accident. The accident? He thought he was turning off into a side street near Westminster Blvd., and Goldenrod Ave. He turned into a telephone pole. He was taken to Orange County General Hospital where his injuries are described as major. Yet to purchase for next year's operation at the junior high schools are more folding chairs and library equipment. Coach Van Hoorebeke, presented purchase for next year’s operation at the junior high schools are findings of a survey made in Southland schools regarding extra pay for extra coaching assignments. The recommendation of a graduated pay scale, depending on assignments, was $100 to $30 a year. The board last year eliminated all extra curriculum pay adding salary increases and pay steps to the former salary schedule. No action was taken on Van Hoorebeke’s proposal. Discussion regarding administrator’s pay was also delayed following suggestion that changes may be necessary because of added responsibilities. Budget department brought forth discussion on a proposal presented to the board from the elementary district regarding the city recreation percentage pay - scale. The budget, presented through Don Derr, recreation director, was based on former actions with elementary and high school districts each assuming 20 per cent. Elementary board due to change in school operations, has requested this be changed to 13½ per cent cost-to the elementary district and 26 per cent to the high school. At Shipkey, president of the board, and Everett Cone were named to meet with the budget committee before action is taken. Public hearing of the application of Bella Vista de la Brea cemetery, covering 56 acres on the north side of Central Ave., about a half-mile west of Pomona Ave., Brea, was continued to May 19 at 3:30 p.m., while the commission studies an opinion on the proposal, issued by the county counsel's office. The cemetery proposal was once turned down, after strong objection from Brea interests.
