'Isolation' Faces North County City
FULLERTON (OCNS) — The problem of extended telephone service for the La Habra area which faces the prospect of being "isolated" from the rest of Orange County by toll charges, has been called to the attention of the Public Utilities Commission by the Fullerton Unibn High School and Junior College District.
Extended service is planned next fall for the rest of northern Orange County by Pacific Telephone and Telegraph Co., but La Habra telephone service is provided by another exchange and no plan has been worked out to bring that area into the toll-free network.
A letter addressed to the Public Utilities Commission by Supt. T. Stuhley Warburton said in part, "We wish to record for your consideration a feeling that help is needed in this area to improve communication among communities which are rapidly growing into one."
Specifically, we are starting a High School in La Habra in September of 1934 which will serve La Habra and Lowell students while remaining a part of this union district. Extended coverage is being arranged so that we can communicate at reasonable cost with neighboring cities such as Brea, Yorba Linda, and Anaheim. It is ironical that we shall have to clear through a special operator and pay substantial cost to telephone in the La Habra and Lowell areas which are located closer and are legally an intrinsic part of our district...
