That Giant Silver Bonus Jail THREE MEN KILLED Anaheim Daily-Herald ANAHEIM FOURTEEN PAGES IN TWO PARTS ANAHEIM, CALIF. Offer New Plan to Cut Short McCarthy Quiz WASHINGTON (UP)—Sen. Everett M. Dirksen R-III offered a new plan today to cut short the McCarthy-Army public hearings, but Army Secretary Robert T. Stevens objected it would not lay "all the facts on the table." The Senate Investigating sub-committee, which is hearing the dispute, agreed to vote at 2:30 p.m. (EDT) on the new Dirksen plan. Like Dirksen's earlier attempts, this one appeared doomed to failure if the Army stands firm against it. Chairman Karl E. Mundt R-S.D.) called it a "fair approach" but said he would not vote for any speedup plan not acceptable to all parties in the dispute. Mundt probably would hold the key vote in a committee that, except for the chairman, is divided three Republicans to three Democrats. Mundt R.S.D.) called it a "fair approach" but said he would not vote for any speedup plan not acceptable to all parties in the dispute. Mundt probably would hold the key vote in a committee that, except for the chairman, is divided three Republicans to three Democrats. Like the original plan he offered yesterday, Dirksen proposed that Stevens be excused immediately, that Sen. Joseph R. McCarthy R-Wis.) be called and that the televised public hearings end as soon as McCarthy has testified. Dirksen's revised formula called for the subcommittee to hear rebuttal testimony in closed session after Stevens and McCarthy complete their testimony in public. It also would bar McCarthy from undertaking any new military investigations until the current inquiry ends. These were the chief differences. Dirksen's new plan touched off lengthy discussion. McCarthy raised no objections to the plan. But Democratic subcommittee members Stuart Symington Mo.) and Henry L. Jackson (Wash.) found fault with it. Stevens objected to the closed session feature of the Dirksen plan, saying the Army cannot subscribe to taking any of the testimony behind closed doors. "Whatever the committee decides the Army will abide by it," Stevens said. "But the Army does not subscribe to putting witnesses in executive session." Woman Seeks $125,000 For Softball Mishap SANTA ANA — A young woman, manager of a girls' softball team at Cypress, was plaintiff here today in a Superior Court damage action for $125,000. Gene Eunice Mann brought the action against Nutrilite Inc., Buena Park Kids, Inc., the Nutrilite Foundation, and the Buena Park Boys Club. Miss Mann claimed that her skull was fractured July 24, 1952 when she was struck on the head by a ball during a game at Cypress Elementary School playground. The defendants denied responsibility and claimed that the accident occurred during a practice game if the Army stands firm against it. GenEVA, Switzerland (UP)—South Korea today accepted the principle of nation-wide elections to unify the peninsula and challenged Communist North Korea to join in balloting May 20 under United Nations supervision. The Far Eastern Peace conference turned back to the debate on Korea today while French and other Western powers studied a Communist plan for ending the war in Indochina. France said the Red peace proposals might offer a basis for negotiations even though they contained some "Trojan Horse features." South Korean Foreign Minister Pyun Yung Tai told the 19-nation Korean conference the fundamental question of Korean unification was whether the Communist government "will break down the Iron Curtain and permit the holding of free and fair elections under the auspices of the United Nations." The South Korean Republic, a ward of the U. N., is scheduled to hold elections May 20. North Korea has refused so far to accept any international supervision of elections. Pyun's speech constituted acceptance of the principle of nation-wide elections under U. N. supervision, as proposed by the United States and other Western man Rhee had maintained that his country already had held four free elections. He wanted any new election to be held only in North Korea under U. N. supervision to fill the 100 seats that have been held open in the National Assembly at Seoul for representatives from the North. The Communists have proposed that elections be supervised by commissions made up of representatives of the North and South but without international overseers. The West feared this would give the Reds veto power over the balloting and allow them to steal the election. Strong attacks also were made but repulsed, the announcement said, on three other outposts on the west flank of the vital, French held Red River Delta. The French ordered all available bombers to attack Red positions and reported three heavily reinforced Communist positions were destroyed and a fourth was damaged in a series of massive air strikes. All the Red positions were located about 18 miles east and southeast of this tense capital. Rebel units were trying to slice the key supply route linking Hanoi and its supply port of Haipong, through which flows American military aid. The Reds plainly have made that route, Colonial Highway No. 5 and a parallel railway line, a main objective of their strategy since their capture of the northern Indochinese fortress of Dien Bien Phu. Hanoi became tense following the announcement that the outpost just outside the capital had fallen to the Communists. Other Red attacks were directed primarily against positions being manned by native auxiliary troops and green Viet Nam loyal native units. Communist radio broadcasts heard here said the 8000 French Union troops captures when the Reds overran Dien Bien Phu are being given careful treatment because of their "unprecedented heroism" in defending the isolated fortress. The broadcasts indicated that nurse Genevieve Galard-Terraube the only woman inside Dien Bien Phu when it fell to the Communists Friday, is alive, safe and still attending French wounded in the fortress' underground hospital. LOS ALAMITOS—Lost in a heavy overcast a one-engine monoplane crashed on Los Alamitos Naval Air Station at 3:07 a.m. today killing three men. The dead, all residents of Long Beach, were Floyd (Barney) Bontrager, 26, the pilot; Charles William Burgess, 25, and Robert Tinney, 24. All three were employed by North American Aviation Co. at Inglewood. Bontrager was a flight line mechanic at the aircraft plant on the Los Angeles International Airport. The other two men were his assistants. They took off from International Airport at 2:15 a.m. to commute to Long Beach Municipal Airport. The pilot had filed a flight plan with the CAA and was a rated instrument pilot. Before he left, Bontrager queried Long Beach for a weather report and was told that the ceiling was near zero. He decided, however, to take off and at 2:57 a.m., he radioed the Long Beach airport control tower that he was having trouble locating the signal beam for a radio landing and he asked directions. The control tower operator instructed him to the landing pattern but the pilot apparently flew too far and wound up over Los Alamitos Naval Air Station. At about 500 feet, the craft circled the Naval station twice narrowly missed the control tower and then plummeted into a deep field about 1000 feet. early this morning killing three from International Airport to World in Brief ONLY IF CHALLENGED State John Dulles said today he the United States and its Allies would be prepared to fight if they D RUSS ASSASSIN Gators summoned Nikolai E.
