Farm Economy Said to Be Holding Position
WASHINGTON (UP) — The nation's farmers, bolstered by the highest pork prices in six years, are holding their own on the economic ladder.
An Agriculture Department report yesterday reported a four tenths per cent increase in overall farm price levels in the month ended April 15, enough to boost the average of all farm prices to 91 per cent of "fair price" parity. They averaged 90 per cent in March.
Parity is the government's yard-stick of a fair price for the things a farmer sells in terms of the prices he pays for the things he buys. Full, or 100 per cent, parity would give the farmer the same purchasing power he enjoyed in the 1910-14 base period.
