Last night the members of the Anaheim Business and Professions al Women's club, mixed fellowship, entertainment, business and beauty at the annual installation dinner held in the spacious dining room of the Greenbrier restaurant, Garden Grove. "This will be an event I will long remember," said Ethel Caverley, new president, who celved the gavel from Eva Gooden, retiring president, as she closed out all business of the past year. It was a formal affair with the colorful gowns worn by the BPW members harmonizing with the exquisite May baskets and Maypoles centering the tables.
Officiating at the installation was Daisy Grinnage of Santa Ana, past president of the San Orco district, and treasurer of the California BPW. Enlarging on the Maypole idea of the evening she used the theme 'butterflies in spring' with the most gorgeous and industrious white butterfly created like a corsage, going to the new president.
President Ethel Caverley entwined poetry with her acceptance talk and likened the officers' and chairmen's work to the streamers of the Maypole as they are woven around the staff the conclusion of the dance echoed as success of the organization at the end of the year. "The dancers are other members," said the leader; "Although I have selected that poem 'Queen of the May' as my symbol, I am not the 'queen of BPW' but merely your leader and guide."
Other Officers Seated
Other officers installed were Mae Cornbloom, first vice president who received the pink butterfly; Mrs. Florence Davis, second vice president, the gold butterfly; Evah Drennan, recording secretary, butterfly in green; Eleanor Bradley; corresponding secretary, orchid butterfly, Emma Lawrence, treasurer, the blue butterfly. All officers were dressed in formals with corsages harmonizing with the tones of their gowns.
Mrs. Gooden, as she concluded business of the past year, expressed deep gratitude to those who aided, in her successful leadership. She, too, brought out the coordination and cooperation theme using the Maypole dance as the symbol.
Special guests were Dean John Kimball Saville of the Long Beach Convocation and rector of the Anaheim St. Michael's Episcopal church, who gave the invocation, and his wife: Installing Officer, Daisy Grinnage; head of junior in the district, presidents of various units other BPW leaders in the county council and district attending the ceremonies.
