NEWS FROM LYNBROOK Minnie Harvey KE 5-5607 A large number of parents and friends attended open house at Loara School last Friday evening. Each grade had programs for the parents. Pie, cookies and cake with coffee were sold through the evening, the money to be used for P.T.A. Charlotte Alexander was hostess at a kitchen ware party recently. Those present were: Francis Bentley, Connie McCready, Minnie Harvey, Doris Cannon, Winnie Head, June Mahoney, Marg Widner, Berl Jackson and the demonstrator, Blanche Parris from Garden Grove Minnie Harvey attended the second district V.F.W meeting at Huntington Beach Sunday. Mrs. Joe Maskivich, 8871 Aladdin Dr., returned home last week after surgery at the Corona Naval Hospital. Betty Underwood, Catherine and Virginia Keele, of Lynbrook Park, spent Saturday night at the home of their grandmother, Mrs. Glee Keele, 581 south Ohio St. Mrs. Francis Bentley, 8792 Aladdin Dr., was hostess to her sewing club last Thursday evening. Mrs. Reagon Powell 8881 Aladdin Dr., is ill at her home. Rev. and Mrs. O. L. Underwood 8962 Dahlia Dr., were hosts to a going away party in honor of Rev. and Mrs. Charles Miles. The Rev. and Mrs. Miles are moving to Ballinger, Tex., where the Pastor has accepted a church. A gift of money was presented to them. Those present were: Rev and Mrs Underwood, Betty, Helen, Jackie and Kenney. Rev and Mrs. Miles, and son Stevie, Mrs. Glee Keele, Mrs. Emmett Keele, Cathy, Bevera-McDillard Head and Mrs. Paul Moreno and daughter, Paulette, of Whittier. Mr. ad Mrs. Paul Melicki 8861 Caroll Dr., had their son baptized at St. Boniface church in Anaheim Sunday, Mr. and Mrs. Al Thompson of Los Alamitos are the God parents. They were dinner guests of the Melicki's later. The Merle Taylor's and Dillard Head's of Alladin Drive motored to Irvine Lake Sunday and had a picnic. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Brenchley, 8871 Bernice Dr., are the winners of a all-paid vacation trip to Yosemite National Park and they leave last of June. Mrs. Dillard Head 8862 Alladin Dr., was hostess to a party Wednesday morning. Those present were Betty Grant, Eloise Chastain of Kathryn Drive, Beryl Jackson, VI Farmer, Lucille Tomerlin, Vera Brenchley, Marg Weidner, Francis Bentley, Connie McCready, Charlotte Alexander, Lavonne Maskivich, Ruth Riffel, Yvonne Taylor, Minnie Harvey, Blanche Harris. Refreshments were served. Magnolia Pupils Receive Awards STANTON — Junior Ranger badges and diplomas were awarded to fifth and sixth grade students of Magnolia No. 1 school who had completed a course in conservation and fire prevention. The presentation ceremony took place at 1 p.m., May 8 in the school auditorium. Annual Banquet Tabbed Success STANTON—The Savanna school district's fourth annual Father-School banquet featured Norm VanBrooklin, star quarter-back of the Los Angeles Rams, as speaker. A file of "Ram Highlights" was also shown according to Wayne L. Butterbaugh, district superintendent. Special music was provided by eighth grade girls as "singing waltzes" and a group of Anaheil High School students known as the "Musical Four." Meal was prepared by Mrs. Athur Mabs and her cafeteria staff assisted by Savanna mothers, with 7th and 8th grade girls doing the serving. Tables were beautifully decorated in a football theme by Mrs Jane Byrd, Mrs. Bertha Hanke and Mrs. Dorothy Wolter. J. E. Pruett, president of the board of trustees, Savanna school district, served as master of ceremonies. An estimated 250 dads, sons and special guests attended the fair, Butterbaugh reported. In addition to discovering and correcting fire hazards at home, the students made outlines and wrote stories and articles in connection with their language work. Conservation posters were also made in connection with art work. Mrs. Mattie Lou Maxwell, principal, was assisted in the program by Miss Maude Williams, Mrs. Helen S. Barchenger and Mrs. Esther Nunneley, teachers of the fifth and sixth grades. Firing Center this month to participate in the exercise Hill Top with the 44th fantry Division. Cpl. William G. Will, 24 of Mr. and Mrs. Carl F. W Garden Grove, will take part in the largest joint Army-Air mover ever staged in the Pacific Northwest. The 15,000-man training exercise will stress mobility and firepower of battalion regimental combat teams under modern combat conditions, including a simulated atomic explosion. Cpl.
