Secretaries Present Polio Check; Details of 'Aviation' Meeting at Villa Marina Told Executives' Secretaries Inc. Orange County chapter Monday night wound-up a benefit project o this year when President Verona Weeks presented a sizable check to Sheriff Jim Musick the secretaries' contribution to the Infantile Paralysis Foundation (polio program) in Orange county. Sheriff Musick headed the March of Dimes program this past year and has again accepted the chairmanship for the county this coming year. The presentation was made at a dinner meeting of the Orange County Florists' association at the Cirque restaurant with Bess Pawson presiding. Accompanying the Sheriff was John McKittrick chairman of the Infantile Paralysis Foundation. The money was derived from the recent Buds and Duds fashion show benefit at Santa Ana Ebell auditorium the florists sponsoring arrangements and sharing in the benefit funds for the polio program. The Executives' Secretaries at la Marina heard final plans for the national convention slated for Coronado hotel May 13-16. County delegation will be headed by President Verona Weeks with Enid Edmond past president and candidate for a national office and Evelyn Deckert on the slate for national director to be in the group. Marine Flight Program Marines in flight was the theme of the dinner program with Macy Walker executives' secretary from the El Toro Marine Base as chairman. Officers from the base appeared on a panel with their Colonel as moderator. Inflight took in the "jet" to the helicopter the flying machine that is often called the "mercy plane." Function of the various types of planes at the base a clear analysis of operation was told the secretaries, the language of pilots "inflight" interpreted in simple wording thus placing the tactical task aviation under the El Toro Marine program. Entire evening centered on aviation with favors and decorations a part of this program. Guests included bosses and others from the firm members interested in the flight program. Clever Recognition Clever highlight, both for amusement and informative interest, were the original poems and jingles given by President Verona as secretaries introduced themselves, rhymes indicative of the firm's slogan and the member's personality. Also enjoyed was the gift-time with these presented through individual members. At this "aviation" meeting, courtesy and fellowship was again the keynote, this idea employed as table seating was mixed up by means of appropriately designed placecards. Recognitions for service was given where due by the president, including the report of the secretary award at the Fullerton Junior college Eleanor Freberg, making the presentation, and Enid Edmond as business day panel participant. The final days of the 1954 Easter Seal Campaign looking somewhat brighter it was reported. Although the 1954 quota fell short Orange County folks rallied behind the Seal drive to make the campaign's total exceed the 1953 previous high Dr. LeGrand Spencer president of the group stressed. The Society, Spencer pointed out operates entirely from funds from the sale of Seals and the Seal Coin containers each year and new funds are needed to keep pace with the county's growing population and added service to the crippled children. A summer camp for the handicapped is now being programmed by the Society with extra contributions needed to assure that none of the youngsters are left behind. "Camper-ships for the 10 days in the mountains cost nearly $90." Spencer said.
