Live Steamers Puff
At Field Day at
Lomita Last Sunday
Little engines went "puffin'" around small gauge tracks when the Tri-County Live Steamer members were the guests of the Southern California Live Steamers at the home of "Little Engines" in Lomita this past weekend.
This hobby which has become one of the major interests of adults as well as youth, has provided a field day for the engines on many occasions, with Sunday's "day on the rails" drawing more than 1000 spectators and participants.
Flat cars to pullmans, smoothly gliding behind many types of miniature locomotives, their power great enough to pull the engineer as well as others, were designed after many of the national railroads.
It was the day for enthusiasts in little engines to exhibit best with the whistles to every crossing or tunnel, the wearing their caps and over them that ever present oil evident.
In the field meet from Country club were Albert C. secretary, from Anselm; Myer, Robin Smith, Mr. Warren Walter, Jacob DeVrie Matthews, all of Orange Charles Stump, Long Charles Brard, Les Angei Bury, Downey

THE MESSAGE IS FOR US...
WHEN THIS PICTURE WAS TAKEN, this man was calling a message to a battery of artillery. Today, he has a message for us: "Soldier or citizen, we all want peace. We cannot it enough to defend it—as we would defend our freedom. And if a peaceful future for our country depends upon our strength; we will be ready."
We at home are keeping America economically strong—by investing in Savings Bonds—just as our Armed Forces are keeping her militarily strong. An enormous thing, but we're equal to it—43 million of us now own Bonds! Because we want security for ourselves. And because we know that peace is only for the strong!

New Jewelled Holiday Shoes Follow Diamond Jim Urge for 'Show'
The exquisite jewelled trifles that have been the glamour ac- cent on clothing for some time are now "going to the feet." With the short evening dress on the popu- lar list for the holidays, designers of shoes for this season are "putting stars" on footwear thus bringing into focus a "Cinderella" slipper with shimmering rhinestones, pearls, gold and silver.
Sandal Fantasy
One real fantasy is the sandal consisting of a gold instep band and halter/strap, plus the sole, of course, with a huge glittering spray of rhinestones or pearls, fashioned in likeness to ear-rings and poised on one side of the band, this introduction, actually a "jewelled mobile" on a dancing foot, is definitely an innovation in the shoe-kingdom.
The height of luxury in dining-at-home fashions in a mule-type of slipper — a very high heel plus a broad instep band made of the new glitter cloth in gold, silver of color to match your gown, with band of sable of mink across the top. A conversation piece if ever we saw one!
Bronze Beading
Slightly more formal in feeling is a dinner shoe with covered vamp completely covered with bronze beading, held in place on the foot by a beaded asymetric strap.
The more casual slippers, for wear with fancy pants and house-coats subscribe to the same colorful lavish look as real party shoes.
Reports Highlight A.B. Paul, WRC Meeting Tuesday
Meeting in the IOOF hall Tuesday, the members of the A. B. Paul, Woman's Relief Corps heard an excellent activity report. It included relief, $18; children's relief, $16; other relief, $9; cards, 122; calls, 28; bouquets, 17; two plants and three sprays.
Twenty-five members attended the meeting which was presided over by Alice Robert, senior vice chairman. A visitor from Minnesota, Mrs. May, was introduced.
Plans were made for a public card party on Tuesday, Nov. 3 with dessert to be served at 12:30 p.m. In reports the details of the flag presentation to the Broadway PTA on Oct. 13 were given by Leona Hull, patriotic instructor.
They'll be tops in Christmas presents this year, so wonderful are they to wear and to look at. Velvet is a favorite base material.
Just a peep at the slipper show is this vanguard of new shoes all fascinating new designs to suit every costume, every taste, every purse.
