Aerialist to Head Hallowe'en Acts (Continued from page 1) The whole family. The stadium show will begin on the dot of 7 o'clock on the evening of Oct. 31 in order to insure that the program will be completed before the first elements of the 30th annual Hallowe'en parade reach the stadium. The parade will enter the stadium and circle the infield. Tickets for the La Palma Park Stadium show are included in the two-for-one Hallowe'en button deal. Purchasers of the big orange and blue Hallowe'en buttons, for $1, receive a coupon which entitles them to a ticket to the La Palma park show upon payment of only 20 cents federal tax. Coupons are redeemable at the Anaheim Chamber of Commerce office on or before Oct. 30. State Grange Again Attacks Douglas McKay SANTA ROSA (UP) — Interior Secretary Douglas McKay has come under attack again at the 81st annual meeting of the California State Grange. Elmer McClure of Milwaukie, master of the Oregon Grange, said yesterday McKay has "changed materially" since entering public life. McClure said the secretary, a former governor of Oregon, had once been a "liberal thinker on the power question." "I can't say he was for public power, but he was for public development," he said. McClure said he was unable to understand McKay's "about face" and cited an instance where he said the secretary voted in the Oregon Senate to override the governor's veto on a power question. On Tuesday, George Sehlmeyer, state Grange master, accused McKay of "practically abandoning" public power development for the "benefit of private interests." Migrating Squirrels Jam Mississippi City JACKSON, Miss. (?) — Hundreds of migrating squirrels scampered about Jackson today, electrocuting themselves and knocking out power circuits while they sought acorns and pecans in the city's trees. The Mississippi Power and Light Co. said the squirrels were keeping repair crews working overtime. Since the migrating began a month ago the squirrels have knocked out 20 transformers, the company said. Two of the boys escaped in a county-owned auto. They were armed with a carbine, a 22-caliber rifle and three knives, authorities said. The other two boys were on foot. The four escaped when they tricked the jail matron, Mrs. Josephine Baber, into their sleeping quarters by pretending to be fighting. When she entered the room to stop the fight, two of the boys pulled knives and locked her up in another room. The boys then stole money from a cash box, took the matron's purse with her paycheck in it and fled. (up) — Rep. Frank L. Chelf (D-Ky) today said that President Eisenhower's defense of Secretary of Agriculture Ezra T. Benson yesterday "proves to me more than ever that the President is a great guy, a wonderful fellow trying to cover up for a poor one." Chelf, in a heated telegram to Benson calling for Benson's resignation, said "I believe you are a good man. But I also sincerely believe that you are rather stupid." He told Benson that he should resign "forthwith thereby preventing your later removal by a fine but most embarrassed President." Walter Schreiber Elected West Berlin Mayor BERLIN (UP)—Walter Schreiber was elected mayor of West Berlin today to succeed the late Ernst Reuter. The nomination of Schreiber, who has been acting mayor since Reuter's unexpected death Sept. 29, was approved by the West Berlin City Council by a vote of 62 to 57. TIRED OF REDS — Pfc. Telephone Expansion Program Told Realtors The expansion program of the Pacific Telephone Co. now under way in Anaheim and the remainder of Orange County was outlined for members of the Anaheim Realty Board yesterday morning by Herb Perry, commercial manager of the Anaheim office of the utility corporation. Meeting in San's Cafe, South Los Angeles and Water Streets, the group under the direction of President L. F. Buchanan, heard Perry outline the forthcoming extended phone service to be inaugurated throughout the district by the end of next year. Douglas Reports New High in Earnings SANTA MONICA (UP)—New post-war highs in sales and earnings were reported today by Douglas Aircraft Co. for the first three quarters of fiscal 1953. Sales of $632,280,525 compared with $342,722,873 for the same period of 1952, President Donald W. Douglas said. San Francisco Hits High in Employment SAN FRANCISCO (UP)—Manufacturing employment during September in the San Francisco Bay Area reached the highest total since the end of World War II, the Department of Industrial Relations reported today. Department Director Paul Scharrenberg said employment in the Lo$_5$ Angeles area also gained last month by 9 per cent over September of 1952. Scharrenberg said 203,300 persons were employed in industrial plants in the Bay Area, an increase of 2400 over August. The total was 6800 more than those employed during the same period in 1952. Employment reached 649,200 last month in Lo$_5$ Angeles which represented little change over the previous month.
