County Fran Sterling — Editor Business Enrollment Leaps at Orange Coast Enrollment in business education classes at Orange Coast College has taken a thirty-two per cent jump over last year, according to Charles Haley, division head. Approximately an equal number of men and women make up the total of 444 students now enrolled in business classes. Three additional classes have been added this year to bring the number to 18, Haley said. Instruction is now available in the following areas of business education: principles of accounting, personal typing, intermediate typing, stenography, introduction to business, business law, marketing and distribution, merchandising and operation, advertising and sales promotion and retailing. Also offered are industrial organization and labor relations, advanced typing, transcription, office practice, accounting practice, payroll and income tax accounting, machine calculation, business machines, and filing. Son Bob celebrated his birthday Mrs. C. L. McComber and Mrs. Marle McComber left later that evening for a pleasure trip to Hawaii. Present were Teresa, Bob's sister, Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Edwards. Placentia, Mr. and Mrs. R. M. Chewning and children, Dee and Jack of La Habra, and Mr. and Mrs. W. P. Alverado of Puente. They were joined later in the evening by Mr. and Mrs. Albert Deland of Fullerton, who took the ladies to board their plane. Mr. and Mrs. T. E. Campbell have just returned from a four-day trip to Las Vegas which was awarded them by General Electric for a sales contest at their store. While there, with other winners, they stayed at the famed Sahara. They saw the outstanding shows, went fishing and visited Boulder Dam. At the "Treasurery Treat" card party Monday evening, in the Robert E. Sline home, there were 18 present. Winners in bridge were Mrs. William Watkins, high, and Mrs. Warren McDonald, low. The second meeting of the newly organized past president club of the Buena Park Woman's Club was held Monday in the home of Mrs. Caryl Snyder, 7851 11 St. Elected to serve as officers were Mrs. E. W. Thurman, president, Mrs. J. F. Wagg, vice president, and Mrs. Dan Marshall, secretary-treasurer. The meetings will be social and held bi-monthly. They will be on the second Monday at 12:30 p.m. They will be potluck lunches. Programs will be furnished by members. The next meeting will be a Christmas party with a gift exchange in the home of Mrs. Marshall. Others present were Mrs. L. H. Tanquary, Mrs. Claude Wahl, Mrs. Fred Greenawalt and Mrs. Albert Lawner, who serves them in an advisory capacity. Blue Monday Card Section of the Woman's Club will meet Monday, Oct. 26 at 12:30 p.m. in the Clubhouse. Hostesses are Mmes. Carl Kountz, Antonio Olsen, Rose Cannon, Howard Gill and L. T. Wilsey. Mrs. Marion Spencer, county advisor to Junior Women's Clubs, Mrs. E. E. Patmore, Southern District Advisor, and Mrs. Norman Watson, County president of Juniors, attended a San Diego County meeting at the Ocean Beach Club. They participated in a panel discussion, with Mrs. Spencer giving her viewpoint of Junior-Senior relationship. Executive board members of the Chamber of Commerce met Tuesday morning at Breakfast at the Airport Cafe. Special guest speaker was City manager Arthur Brewer. He told of proper zoning and the problems connected with it. Two new members of the board were introduced, Guy Tester of Knotta Berry Farm and W. W. Stephens of the Gliden Co. These names were added because of the new increase of board members to fifteen. Plans are made for new signs with the service clubs' insignias, to be at the entrances of the city.
