Garshwiler Wins Speaker’s Trophy C. O. Garshwiler won the Toastmaster trophy for his talk on "The House With the Golden Windows", at the dinner meeting of the Toastmasters held Tuesday night at the Dragon cafe on North Los Angeles street. Evaluators for the evening were Allen McKenne, Marcus Gartner, Walter Knott, Frank Sallee and Lewis Boys, president of Toastmasters. The evening was introduced with Chauncey Stillson giving the invocation and welcome by President Boys. Toastmaster was Dick Herman with Lyle Wallace heading table topics on the subject of "Current Debate. Speakers evaluated for the trophy were Lewis Boys, (topic) "From Pollywog to Shellback"; Dr. Les Christensen; "Carles;" Ralph Alexander; "Helpful Tips;" and Garshwiller, trophy winner. Grammarian was James Lepper with Bill Jones serving as timer. Guest of the club was John Meyers. JOB'S DAUGHTERS NEWS A "Cum-As-U-R" breakfast was shared by members of the Anaheim Job's Daughters last Saturday morning at the Masonic Temple. The affair, staged semi-annually, resulted in more than $21 for the treasury with Sandra Johannes, honored queen of the Bethel, serving as general chairman. Churchwomen Hear Details on Refugee Clothing Needs "By sending toweks, sheets, blankets from our homes to the refugees of Europe and Asia we can help save them from turning to Communism," said Mrs. Frank C. Wood of Los Angeles, in speaking to the Board of Managers of Anaheim Council of Church Women yesterday. "These refugees are sheltered in camps, reception centers, orphanages, and homes for the aged. We build world peace by helping them." Mrs. Wood is State Chairman of World Community Day which is observed Nov. 6. Mrs. Joe Thompson, president, announced Anaheim would hold its World Community Day program in the Christian church. A tableau, "We Build Peace," will be the main feature of the program. Mrs. Harold Burns and Mrs. Page Vincent reported on the Mar Casa Retreat held at Balloon. Yesterday's meeting was held in the blue room of the Presbyterian church. NURSES RIDE AMBULANCE Student nurses from Orange Coast College received their first ambulance ride in the Garden Grove Flesta parade committee, three Orange Coast students rode in full uniform. Those appearing were student nurses Miss Laura Smith, Mrs. Janice Jones, and Miss Patricia Steele, graduate vocational nurse. Institute Held For School Heads Orange County School Trustees and Administrators gathered for their annual fall institute at Fullerton Union high school and Junior college Tuesday afternoon and evening. Mor ethan 200 representatives from all levels of education in Orange County were present. Two section meetings were held during the afternoon. The topic which was discussed in one section was "Citizenship Education". Dr. Basil H. Peterson, president, Orange Coast College, spoke on "Citizenship Education in the Junior Colleges". Judge Robert Gardner, Orange County Superior Court, was a member of the panel discussion group on this topic. The other afternoon meeting was devoted to a consideration of "County, State, and Federal Relations with Local School districts". Walter M. Longmoor, trustee from Orange Coast College, served as discussion leader with California Assemblyman Leroy E. Lyon Jr. and Earl W. Stanley as panel members. The main speaker at the dinner meeting was Dr. Robert S. Gilchrist, Assistant Supt., Pasadena City Schools. He described the "kind of education we need in America". Lewellyn and Kenneth P. Snyder. The dinner plans were engineered by Ted B. Fischback, assisted by Dochla Sanders, Betty Liebhart, Alma Pelser, Carlton and Eleanor Barthelmes and Glenn Jennings. The turkeys were roasted by Mrs. Louis Hoskins, Mrs. Fischback, Mrs. Eden Deering, Mrs. Marshal McFie, Mrs. Ralph Wheaton and Mrs. Barthelmes. Coffee and punch was served by Myrna Lewellyn, Nancy and James Barthelmes. Following the bountiful dinner the group adjourned to the Ebell Club house where Louis Hoskins, the local postmaster, introduced special guests of the evening, including Inspector and Mrs. William W. Proksch, and Inspector Dow of Santa Ana, Postmaster and Mrs. Mark Geeting of Placentia and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Spielman, former postal employee just recently returned from Alaska and service in the Air Force. Introduction of Guests Glenn M. Jennings, rural carrier introduced the visiting members of the patrons of the Anaheim Post Office. Arthur L. Finnegan presented to Kenneth P. Snyder, retiring superintendent of malls, a fishing outfit for his future enjoyment. Snyder has just completed 30 years service. Girls League Conclave To Convene at Garden Grove Oct. 7 Orange County Girls' League Convention will be held on the Garden Grove High school campus Wednesday, Oct. 7, from 8:30 to 8:30 p.m. Garden Grove league will be the hostess group. Twelve county high schools will send representatives to the convention which will feature the theme "Growth." The Garden Grove Girls' League board is handling all details of the planning headed by Jeannine DeWitt, decorations, Shirley Rogers and Jockie Brady, menu, and Betty Kitada, correspondence. Barbara Klink, president of that unit is in charge of general arrangements and while Sherry Dunlivin will handle registration and will goers are in for a real treat Monday night, Oct. 5, 7:30 p.m. "Switzerland", land of peace, will be shown via beautifully colored film under the direction of Karl Robinson in the Anaheim Union High school auditorium. Chandler, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Pendleton, Mrs. Alma Baxter and son, Eric, and the Lille and Viola Johnson, daughters of a former retired rural carrier, Charles Johnson, all of Anaheim; Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Schermerhorn of Montebelly; Mr. and Mrs. Earl Baum of Santa Monica; George Cupp of Huntington Beach. On the Program The program for the evening came from the ranks of the Post Office employees. Five year old Miss Loralyn McFie, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Marshall N. McFie, sang "Little Doggie in the Window". Miss Nancy Barthelmes entertained with several accordion selections including "Under the Double Eagle" and "Roll Out the Barrel". She dedicated "Anchors Away" to Kenneth Snyder, as a former navy man and "Cruising Down the River" to Bill Lewellyn. Miss Paula Lande, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Lande, sang "Summertime" and a selection from "La Boheme". Miss Lande and Miss McFie were accompanied on the piano by Marshall N. McFie.
