Lorita Baker Vallely Opens Ebell Club's Year of Program Variety on October 5
Anabeim Ebell members have been assured a club season of excellent programs and activities by members of the program committee and the club administration with the first meeting of the fall season on Oct. 5 to feature Lorita Baker Vallely, a speaker and a recognized authority on current literature and world affairs.
Mrs. Vallely, who has appeared before the Anabeim club on other occasions is known throughout the state for her enthusiastic approach to her subject and is recommended as a top speaker on world affairs.
The Festival Singers, acclaimed throughout by Southern California audiences for their superb artistry, combine the magic of true showmanship and beauty of voice in their program which range from the classics to the folk tunes and hits from the Broadway stage. They sing for Ebell members on Nov. 2.
Thanksgiving Program
Effecting the Thanksgiving, an American holiday heritage, in costume and song, the group, composed of Lella Webster, soprano; Gene Curtisinger, tenor; Enid Jacobsen, baritone and Raymond McFeeters, pianist, are credited with voice blending "surpassed by few and rarely equalled," stated a southland music critic.
Christmas time will bring another special musical program when when the Mitchell Boys choir sings on the afternoon of Dec. 7. This group of boy-youths are noted for the exquisite beauty of their young voices and have been proclaimed "among the best" in their has concertized in 37 states and while singing concerts in the east, producers engaged him for Song of Norway. Since returning west he has been in constant demand for both concert and opera.
Note on Book's
Marjorie Bright Sharp, speaking on notable books and their authors at the Ebell April 5 program will feature interesting vignettes on significant books and their authors. A graduate of the University of Texas, University of South Carolina, Drake U., and a member of Theta Sigma Phi, national honorary journalistic group, Miss Sharp has also in her background excellent contributions to the New York Herald Tribune, Boston Herald Traveler, Indiana Courier Press, King Features and other agencies of note.

Triple Celebration Marks Dierberger Dinner Party

"It Can Happen Here" will be the subject of discussion for the Jan. 4 meeting, the first Ebell session of the year of 1954. Ann Jones who has just returned from the Orient, will be the guest speaker.
Miss Jones says, "Americans must stop using their western thinking when coping with eastern minds." She has a new story of high adventure behind and in front of the bamboo curtain, including May Day riots in Tokyo, "her facts", according to news critics, "are real and courageously spoken."
Guest Night Speaker
Fred M. Judson, D. D., known as a top humorist and inspirational lecturer and one of the country's leading ministers, will speak at the club's guest night on Feb. 1.
Recapped from the Woman's Breakfast club release from Los Angeles, the reporter said, "Dr. Judson captured the hearts and minds of every member and guest who heard him." Burbank Lions Club said of Judson, "Our members are already asking if we can get him back for a return engagement. He really rang the bell." He is claimed equally as interesting to men's club as women's and has received top billing in Southern California. His subject will be "It's a Wonderful Life."
On March 1, the concert soprano, Pola Casselle and tenor, Hendrickde Boer, will sing on the Ebell club afternoon program. Casselle, an Atwater-Kent audition winner, named one of the brilliant soprano artists of the day, has appeared widely in opera, concert and radio. Albert Goldberg of the Los Angeles Times said of Miss Casselle," a beautiful and clear voice which she employs with an instinctive sense of artistry." DeBoer, a young Dutch tenor as his name implies,
Laguna Beach Art Association Coming Exhibits Given for Three Months
Gallery activities for the Laguna Beach Art Association members and guests for the ensuing three months include nine exhibits.
During the month of October exhibits include gallery A, oils and water colors by women painters

Collegiate Duo to Sing
Closing the year will be the Collegiate Duo, Marilyn Taylor, soprano and Paul Mayo, tenor. Their program is slated in conjunction with the installation of the new club officers. Their repertoire is one of variety, and has been marked on past programs for artistry with their delightful voices marked with fine maturity.
A lyric soprano, Miss Taylor's calendar includes the singing role in "Magic Flute" under the baton of none other than Alfred Wallenstein. She has also appeared in solo role with other leading symphonies and has starred in college in Song of Norway, Dear Ruth and other highly praised light operas. She is a graduate of UCLA.
Paul Mayo, formerly student conductor of the Glendale College a Cappella choir will continue his studies at USC. He has had a wide experience in youth appearance dating back to his high school days and has been star-solost in Rossmoyne Christian Church at Glendale presentation for two years. He has been guest solost in such presentations as "Mass in G," "The Magnificant," "St. Paul, and 'Saul' and others of equal status in the musical world.
The president of the Anaheim Ebell club is Mrs. Charles Bush. Mrs. Robert LaFollette is program chairman.

The Presbyterian Flower Mission will hold its first fall meeting at the home of Mrs. Tex Middleton, 919 West Broadway on Thursday, Oct. 1, 2 p.m. Social hour will give members an opportunity to become acquainted with the new minister, the Rev. Roland W. Anderson and his wife, also Dr. Stevenson, assistant minister, and his wife.

Alaskan Films S Recent Meeting Anaheim BPW

Laguna Beach Art Association Coming Exhibits Given for Three Months
Gallery activities for the Laguna Beach Art Association members and guests for the ensuing three months include nine exhibits.
During the month of October exhibits include gallery A, oils and water colors by women painters of the west; gallery B, miscellaneous oils and water colors by members of the association, many of these to go on sale; gallery C and D, oils, water colors, pastels, sculptures by members of the association.
November, the Thanksgiving month, oils by contemporary American painters will be shown in gallery A; gallery B will be the sales exhibit with miscellaneous oils and water colors by members to be shown. In gallery C, and D members will again exhibit oils, pastels, sculptures and pastels.
In December Sam Hyde Harris exhibit will be held in gallery A with gallery B again the sales exhibit. Gallery C and D, will show art works by members.
A travel film, "Cargoes for Peace" will be shown Saturday, Oct. 17 at 8 p.m. with another interesting event scheduled for La-suna, the Esther Andreas mezzo sporano concert on Dec. 19 at 8 p.m. and Catherine Jackson, harpist.
Antique Show Slated Monday at Pasadena Civic Auditorium
An array of things old and rare, articles that will reflect the past glories and history of living will be shown at the Antique show opening at the Pasadena Civic auditorium yesterday.
Valued at more than $2,000,000, more than 12,000 articles are ready for display with 57 booths to be in evidence for exhibiting.
Among the top exhibitors will be Sandra Spence, TV actress, well known for her role of Burma in the dramatization of Terry and His Pirates. She herself is widely publicized as a leading antique dealer.
Hours of the five-day show, which ends Friday, Oct. 2, will be 1 to 11 p.m.

Anaheim Couple Back From Vacation Trip To Canada
Home from a grand vacation are Mr. and Mrs. A. B. Cross of South Philadelphia St. They enjoyed a trip north to Dalles, Ore., and they went on to Port Angelus where they boarded a boat for Victoria, B.C. After a visit at this historic place they continued on to Nanimo where they took the ferry for Vancouver.
After enjoying Canada and its hospitality they headed back to Everett, Wash., and the Grand Coulee Dam. Having still time left on their vacation period they traveled southeast to Reno, Nev. where they were the guests of their daughter, Barbara and her husband, Bob Guardia.

Local Teachers Attend CTA Meet
Anaheim teachers were well represented at the 13th annual fall leader's conference for local teachers associations held at Camp Seeley over the past week end.
Attending the three day conference from the high school faculty club were Avon Carlson, presivisited with their son, Dr. Bird Cross and his family at Maxwell, Calif. Dr. Cross' birthday anniversary was celebrated while the Anaheim couple were guests in the home.

Jefferson Teachers Guests at Recent PTA Luncheon
Thomas Jefferson School Parent-Teacher Association executive board was the host to members of the faculty and staff of the school at a recent luncheon given at the beginning of the new school year.
New and returning teachers were introduced by the school principal, and members of the PTA board were in turn introduced by Mrs. Clyde Dunton, PTA president for this year.
Mrs. Margaret Haugh, second grade teacher, expressed appreciation to members of the board for the lovely luncheon and the attractive decorations," which helped so much to make the first day a happier time for the faculty," said she. "It is hoped that the affair may become a tradition at Jefferson school," she added.
Alaskan Films Shown Recent Meeting of Anaheim BPW Club
At the last meeting of the Business and Professional Women's Club of Anaheim, Mr. and Mrs. Jacob of Dale Avenue narrated and showed their coolred films taken on their travels in Alaska.
The meeting was held at the Optimist clubhouse with Eva Gooden presiding. Three guests, Maxine Christenson, Byrdie Miller and Doris Holcomb were presented.
Other business included naming of delegates, Emma Lawrence, Josephine Fulfer, Ethel Vac Coverley, Mae Cornbloom, and Doris Prickett to the San Orco District meeting on Oct. 17 and 18.

Camp Seeley is located in the Bernardino mountains near Westline. In this natural setting the fall conference attempts to meet the need of stimulation and formation for leaders of educational organizations. It offers an opportunity for discussion of mutual professional problems and is sponsored by the California Teachers Association, southern section.
Nearly 500 leaders representing more than 125 Southern California educational organizations received inspirational as well as informational messages from staff members of the California teachers association and National Education Association.
The Anaheim representatives distributed their attendance over the many sessions in order that they might return to their respective organizations with a more complete reporting of the conference highlights.
