Final Union Evening Service Tomorrow
The last of the summer Sunday evening Union Services will be held this Sunday at 7:30 o'clock at the First Christian Church, West Broadway at Helena, with Rev. Mc Kinley Walker, chairman of the worship committee, presiding, and Marshall McFlee at the organ.
At this service the Sacrament of the Lord's Supper will be observed with all the ministers of the participating churches and the congregation taking part. This is the first time in the history of Anaheim that an ecumenical observance of the Lord's Supper will have been attempted.
Rev. Walker says that the committee in charge does not attempt to put any particular interpretation upon this great Sacrament, but is leaving that to the construction put on by the church to which each communicant belongs.
The Rev. Bob Kevorkian, minister of the First Baptist church will bring the meditation message; Mrs. George Sloop, Jr., will sing "The Lord's Prayer."
These union services in this "city of good living" have become traditional, well-attended, and many folk look forward to each opportunity for worshipping God in a common service.
Next community-wide service sponsored by the Association of Christian Churches and other groups of Anaheim, will be the annual Thanksgiving Service at the High School on the morning of Thanksgiving Day.
Lord’s Prayer Basis of Ten Weekly Sermons
The Rev. Edwin H. Pflug, pastor of the Zion Lutheran church, will begin a series of ten sermons on the model prayer, "The Lord's Prayer," tomorrow. He will speak on the topic: "In the Hall of the Lord's Prayer" at the opening of the series.
The petitions of the Lord's Prayer will be woven into the coming special services including Sunday School Rally on Sept. 27 and the
Christian Science Topic ‘Substance’
The harmonious effects of understanding that substance is spiritual and permanent will be discussed in the Sunday Lesson-Sermon on “Substance” in all Christian Science churches.
The Golden Text from Psalms (119:89,90) reads, "For ever, O Lord, thy word is settled in heaven. Thy faithfulness is unto all generations: thou hast established the earth, and it abideth."
In his sermon on the Mount as recorded by Mathew (6:19-21) Jesus admonishes, "Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, ... For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also."
In the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mary Baker Eddy declares, "Man walks in the direction toward which he looks, and where his treasure is, there will his heart be also. If our hopes and affections are spiritual, they come from above, not from beneath, and they bear as of old the fruits of the spirit" (p. 451).

Lord's Prayer Basis of Ten Weekly Sermons
The Rev. Edwin H. Pflog, pastor of the Zion Lutheran church, will begin a series of ten sermons on the model prayer, "The Lord's Prayer," tomorrow. He will speak on the topic: "In the Hall of the Lord's Prayer" at the opening of the series.
The petitions of the Lord's Prayer will be woven into the coming special services including Sunday School Rally on Sept. 27 and the Mission Rally Preparatory service on Oct. 4.
The sermons in the series are "In the Hall of the Lord's Prayer"; "Our Father's Name"; "The Necessity of our Father's Kingdom"; "Our Father's Will"; "The Popular Prayer for Bread"; "Our Father's Forgiveness"; "Our Forgiveness"; "The Plea for Help"; "Our Father's Deliverance"; and "The Triumph of Prayer."
Pastor Pflog said, "This series of sermons will set forth the beauty, the completeness and the effectiveness of the prayer that Jesus taught us. In these days of insecurity, it gives us the certainty that God cares and that the eternal values never change."
