BULLETIN Thursday, Sept. 10, 1953 Women carrie lou sutherland ~ editor Post Nuptial Shower Honors Mrs. Donald Calaway Mrs. Donald Calaway (Ted Lou Payne) was guest of honour at a delightful post-nuptial show last evening at the home of Mr. Howard Tews, 700 North Hele Street, Mrs. David D. Walker (Norma Tews) was co-hostess with her mother. Guests were served individual baskets of diminutive fruit which was in reality exquisite molds of ice cream. The refreshment table was set with red roses and white candles in silver candelabra. Mrs. Ted Payne, mother of Mrs. Calaway, poured. All the remarks of the honor guest as she unwrapped her cellaneous gifts for her home were recorded by Mrs. Everett Cone and read later to the enjoyment of Mrs. Calaway was married August 31 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Her husband Donald Calaway, stationed at Camp Roberts near the U.S. army. Mrs. Calaway continuing her teaching of kindergarten at Whittier where she living at 508 E. Franklin street. Those bidden to the shower included the Mesdames Dolpha Underwood, Charles Schutz, Ellabeth Hillary, Roy Officer, Gertrude Wilson, "Tommy" Thomason, Stiley Louden, Everett Cone, Tex Middleton, E. L. Anderson, Edw Anderson Jr., John Wood, Altheide, Elliott KcKnight, H.Callaway, and Ted Payne of Aheim; Mrs. John Knight of Angeles; Mrs. Glenn Mark Oxnard C.E. McKnight, Los Angeles, the Misses Rosemary Wood, Jack Cone, and Marjorie Schutte of Aheim. Hello Dance Slated At Santa Ana JC A get-acquainted Hello Day the first social event following MISS AUDRIE ELIZABETH BERG—became the bride of Russell Stanford Ashby in formal wedding recently. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Berg, proprietors of the variety store at Stanton, and is well known in Anaheim. Audrie Berg and Russell Ashby are Wed At St. Andrews Church in Newport Miss Audrie Elizabeth Berg, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Berg of Costa Mesa, and Russell Stanford Ashby, son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Ashby of Albuquerque, New Mexico, were married recently in formal ceremony at the St. Andrews church of Newport, with the Rev. James Stewart officiating. The bride wore a period gown of white nylon tulle and satin and carried a white prayer book with phalanopsis orchids and stephanotis. She was attended by Miss Carol Witz of El Paso, Tex., as maid of honor. The bridesmaids were Miss Sally Stringer of Las Vegas, Miss Mary Lou Fenn of Boulder City, and Mrs. Bethany Smouse of Costa Mesa. The attendants wore gowns of nylon tulle in pastel tones. Little Miss Sandra Jenks, and her brother, Ronald Jenks, children of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Jenks, were flower girl and ring bearer. Herbert Louis Ashby, brother of the bridegroom, was best man. The ushers were John Keefe of Paseadena, Lincoln Aston, of Laguna Beach, and Richard Smouse of Costa Mesa. Music for the ceremony was provided by Mrs. Robert Andrews who sang Grieg's "I Love Thee" and "The Lord's Prayer." Mrs. Ralph Dever was organist. The reception was held at the church immediately following the ceremony, with the bride's mother wearing an afternoon gown of chantilly lace in tones of olive green, and the bridegroom's mother in powder blue. Miss Shirley Pickens assisted with the guest book. The young couple plans to live in Albuquerque, New Mexico where Mr. Ashby is a pre-medical student at the University of New Mexico. He is affiliated with the Phil Delta fraternity. The bride is a graduate of Newport Harbor High school. She attended the University of New Mexico and is affiliated with Chi Omega sorority. September Is Month For Oyster to Appear Susan Nojunas Is Hostess At Birthday Party Mr. and Mrs. Joe Nojunas, 149 North Lemon St., invited friends to help them celebrate the first birthday of their daughter, Susan, recently at their home. Balloons, paper hats, and fanoy nut cups helped to carry out the pink and blue motif at the table which was set for the children where they were served ice cream, birthday cake and punch. Each child had an individual cake baked with a surprise of a coin contained within it. Guests for the party included Mrs. Belle Dorney, Mrs. Elizabeth Ray, Mrs. Earl Pugh, Mrs. Vaughn Day and son, Billy, Mrs. Frank Yaffu and daughters Gall and Susan, Stevie and Judie Rado. Judie Rado entertained the guests with accordion solos. Jean Circle Meets At Home of Mrs. Heilman Mrs. Richard Heilman, 10332 Euclid Ave., entertained the Jean Circle of the White Temple M. E. church; Tuesday evening at her home, with Mrs. Richard Heilman as assistant hostess. Wayne Baldwin presented a film on the Community Chest showing the need of the movement and the value of the agencies being assisted by the chest. Those present for the meeting included Mrs. Sterling Morton, David, Mrs. Jeff Eaton, Mrs. Dutz Hilbers, Mrs. Jim Messnard, Mrs. Ralph Osborne, Mrs. Keith White. The dance will feature signal cards to be covered with a graphics at classes prior to dance. Center St. This project has been carried on for over 25 years, providing the organization funds for aid in many worthy causes. Each year regular patrons purchase warm cothing for over-seas relatives and friends. A part of the proceeds will go to the St. Barnabas home for convalescent men in Los Angeles. Mrs. R. W. Patrick and Mrs. Bess Fitzpatrick, co-chairmen for the affair, are extending an open invitation to visit the sale. St. Boniface P T A Officers Plan Activities The executive board of the St. Boniface Parent Teachers Association met at the home of Mrs. Jean Groat yesterday with Mrs. Loren Roberts, president, in charge. Plans were made to serve refreshments in the hall of the school on Mnday when classes will convene for full day session. Mrs. Roberts urges that all mothers come to the school that day. She further announced that all children must be in uniform by October 1. These uniforms may be purchased at the S.Q.R. store in Anaheim. "The first general meeting of the P. T. A association will be held Sept. 24, 1 p.m., at the Parish hall. E.U.B. Choir Has Social Hour After Rehearsal Members of the choir of Evangelical United Brethren church were entertained with a social hour following rehearsals evening at the church bungalow Mrs. Clarence Mauerhan, president of the choir, planned the refreshments. Plans for fall music for church were made earlier with Mrs. Floyd Stockwell, Minister Music, met with the girls' School choir at 7:30, prepare them to sing Sunday morning at the special Rally Day program. Choir Has Special Hour Rehearsal Members of the choir of the Angelical United Brethren were entertained with a sojourn following rehearsals last night at the church bungalow.
