Labor Day Drivers Warned of Hazards By HARMAN W. NICHOLS WASHINGTON (UP)—This week end, over labor day, will mean death on wheels for a lot of drivers who should have been smart enough to stay at home. But if you feel that you have to get to the trout stream or fight the other duffers off the road, not to mention the mosquitoes and picnic ants, you may be wise to follow a few safety rules. A Few Rules And if you want rules, why not go to the professionals, the struck drivers? These fellows keep themselves alive and their families eating by being careful. Not only do they watch out for their own skins but they protect the fellow behind them and the one n front. The American Trucking Associations, Inc., reports that there are uncounted hundreds of truckmen in the country who have driven over 1,000,000 miles without a dented fender or even a frayed nerve. To mention a few before giving their advice: There is Sylvester Jackson of the Navajo Freight Lines, in California. He has pushed his big truck over 1,704,500 miles without an accident. "Syl" did all of this over high crowns, two lanes, narrow roads, negotiating 180 degree curves, and in all kinds of temperatures, from 130 degrees in the desert to chilly over 7,500 elevation. Over 7,500 elevation spots in the mountain passes of "Syl" is topped by Alvah Crawford, who is still on the road after over 2,000,000 miles without a traffic ticket or a skinned fender. He drive for the G & P Transportation Co., of St. Paul, Minn. Expert Drivers Then there is George Bradley of Waterbury, Conn., who has more than 1,300,000 miles to his credit. George's record for safe driving stretches over 31 years. These drivers have their own LEGAL NOTICE NOTICE INVITING PROPOSals FOR FURNISHING CAST IRON WATER PIPE AND FITTINGS NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that sealed proposals will be received by the City Council of the City of Anaheim at the office of the City Clerk of said City up to the hour of eight o'clock E.M. of Tuesday, the 6th day of September, 1953, for the furnishing to said City of the following approximate quantities of Cast Iron Water Pipe and Fittings: ITEM 1 7,900 feet of 12 inch cast iron pipe. Radio Tehran issued the text of a letter by Zahedi Aug. 26 assuring the President Iran would "purse a policy of eliminating such differences as may exist or which may develop between other countries and itself in a spirit of friendliness." Observers said this included long standing differences with Britain over nationalization of the properties of the Anglo-Iranian Oil Company by the government of Mohammed Mossadegh, which was overthrown by Zahedi. Informed sources said Zahedi has already intimated to U. S. Ambassador Loy W. Henderson that Iran would agree to set up an international marketing organization to handle its oil. Other sources said the United States has offered Iran nearly 100 million dollars in emergency aid in response to Zahedi's appeal to the President. FRASER, Colo.
