JACK HOXIE AT UNITED THEATER
A stirring, dramatic tale of the cattle country is promised for the screen by "A Roaring Adventure," Universal Western starring Jack Hoxie and which will be shown in the United Theater Friday and Saturday. Hoxie is cast in the part of a young chap who comes from the East to visit his father and becomes mixed up in the plot of some cattle rustlers to despoil the ranch the father owns in the hills some miles from a little town where the father makes his home. Hoxie is supported by a cast that includes Mary McAllister, Marlin Sals, J. Gordon Russell, Francis Ford, Jack Pratt and little Margaret Smith, Clifford Smith directed and the Hoxie unit of the famous Universal Ranch Itiders contribute some spectacular features in the way of horsemanship.
Duffy Burns, the part portrayed by Hoxie, decided to go to the ranch and attend a show at VAUDEVILLE A CALIF. THEATRE.

Celebrate Anniversary
Honoring the tenth anniversary since the launching of Ventura gasoline and oil upon the market, a meeting of the wholesale distributors and branch managers of the Ventura Refining Company was held in Los Angeles this week.
Mr. R. A. Mosher attended as representative from this territory.
He reports a very enthusiastic meeting at which advertising and merchandising plans were announced, which were the most comprehensive in the history of the company.
"We expect 1925 to be the biggest year of all in sales," it was announced by T. W. Okey, sales manager who presided at the meeting.
Other speakers were Frank G. Hobart, L. R. Orton, R. A. Mosher, F. W. Hicks, Frank Barnes and E. G. Mulford.
"More power to you," is the slogan for 1925 for all Ventura representatives. This slogan will be used in bill board and newspaper advertising and the Ventura men are going to try to make the popular farewell, "More Power to You" instead of "so long."

Buster has $7,000,000 some 7,777 women who will marry him and his million "Seven Chances," which he latest Metro-Goldwyn co-presented by Joseph M. LOS ANGELES, May 8.—Mrs Anne Webster of the Hollywood Country Club will meet Mrs. Thomas H. Pike of the Wilshire Country Club today in the final match of the California Country Club's annual invitation golf tournament for women.
The 1925 yachting season in So Calif. will be opened Sunday with the first race of the year, a test of speed boats of all classes to be run off Los Angeles harbor.
Thirty boats are expected to compete in the nine mile race. The course is from Miner Fill, in the outer harbor, around the breaker to the Whistling Buoy, thence to the Long Beach channel and return to Miner Fill.
Sailor Foster and Johnny White will head the Compton American Legion card tonight in an eight-round bout. Lynn Carpenter and Kid Cerdace will tangle for six rounds at 135 pounds in the semi-windup.
The Ladies LaCrosse League of America announces that four new LaCrosse teams composed of girls will be formed in Burbank, Hollywood, Pasadena and Los Angeles. Those in charge of organization are Laura Redden, 903 Palm avenue, Burbank, and Lucy Hooper, 4316 Burns avenue, Hollywood.
Jackie Fields, winner of the world's amateur championship in the featherweight division at the 1924 Olympic games, meets Joe Salas, runner up to fields in the game, up the Hollywood Legion stadium tonight.
They are slated to go ten rounds to a decision. Fields is favorite in the betting.

MOTOR SHARES SHOW STRENGTH
NEW YORK, May 8.—Stocks continued today to reflect the restoration of confidence in the Wall Street community regarding the financial and business outlook. Speculative sentiment had been dealt a severe blow by the drastic price decline which took place in March and early April. But with the averages back to within striking distance of the high point reached on last winters forward movement, it was increasingly evident that the reaction had beer technical in character and in no way changed the outlook for sustained prosperity in the general commercial fields.
Motor shares were taken up in an impressive way under the leadership of Dodge pfd. and Willys-Overland. Public utilities continued to furnish a number of buoyant features while strength in Seaboard, Ann Arbor, Rock Island and other rails with consolidation prospects demonstrated that the possibilities in this connection were not likely to be overlooked.
Leading industrials were held back by the expectation of an unfavorable tone in the U.S. Steel unfilled tonnage statement for April.
GRAIN PRICES SOAR
CHICAGO, May 8.—Extremely bullish news circulated freely about the grain pit today and prices soared to a higher close. The full advance was not held. Late profit taking caused fractional recessions.

In "Too Many Kisses" Dix is set as a no'er-do-well son of wealthy mine owner who is his wits end to know what to with him. As Robert Gaydard, there is scarcely a day asses but that Dix has to go his father for a little check settle some breach of prom suit.

George Sisler hit a home run and helped the Browns beat the Tigers 6 to 5. It was the 22nd successive game in which Sisler hit safely.
Four runs scored in the fifth inning with the help of three errors by Johnston and Mitchell gave the Braves a 7 to 3 victory over the Robins.

Fred Muhs, high jumper, was awarded the skull and snakes cap given annually to the junior block "S" man with the highest scholastic average for the preceding five quarters.

BOSTON — Young Stribling, Geooria light heavyweight, won his first victory in the heavyweight division when he stopped Quintin Romero, South American champion in the fourth round. Romero was on the floor twice in the third round and was down once in the fourth before the bout was stopped by the referee. Romero could not defend himself.

FREED OF CHARGE
A charge of attacking a 14-year-old Santa Ana girl in Orange-coast last Dec. 26 was dropped this morning against James Mari-gold, Santa Ana dance musician, by the district attorney's office.
At the first trial last week the jury disagreed, and a new trial date was set. In dismissing the case before Superior Judge F. C. Drumm this morning, however, it was stated by the prosecution that the girl involved and other prosecution witnesses had expressed a desire not to proceed farther with the case.

RENO, Nev., May 8.—Western Nevada was in arms today joining the search for Flovd Hall and Joe Tanko, escaped San Quentin murderers.
The fleeing convicts have crossed Yuba Pass and are now in this state according to best available reports. Seven police from Sacramento arrived here last night and posses were organized at once with Chief of Police Kirkley assisting.

Whether they went north toward Oregon, east toward Reno or cut through the Black Rock desert to Gerlach in hopes of pressing on to Salt Lake City, is problematical.

KITCHEN BOUQUET
A noted Chef's recipes for making savory soups, stews, gravies, sauces and other tempting and delicious dishes.
Onion Soup
1 tablespoon Kitchen Bouquet; 5 large onion slices; 1 tablespoon easily minced carrot; 3 tablespoons butter; 5 tablespoons flour; 3½ pints boiling water; salt and pepper to taste; 3 bouillon cubes; ¼ cup thin cream. Peel and parboil onions for 3 minutes, drain and chop fine, place in saucepan with carrot and butter and simmer for 1 minute. Add flour, stir and add boiling water and pepper and cook slowly a half hour. Strain, add bouillon cubes and stir until dissolved. Add Kitchen Bouquet and cream. Place several pieces toast in tureen, pour over soup and serve at once.
Brown Gravy
Add to the pan in which meat was baked or roasted, one rounded table-spoonful of flour; rub to a smooth paste; add 1 cup of soup stock, or boiling water; stir a moment and then place on the stove, air until the sauce bubbles, add ⅓ teaspoonful of Kitchen Bouquet and season with salt and pepper to taste. Let it bubble up, and serve at once.
