Your Cross Word Puzzle HOW TO SOLVE THE CROSS WORD PUZZLE The way to solve the Cross Word Puzzle is to fill in the white squares of the diagram with the words which agree with the accompanying definitions. The definitions are numbered to correspond with the numbers on the diagram. Any word defined in the text under "HORIZONTAL" will begin at its number, shown on the diagram, and will extend all the way across to the first black space to the right of that number. That is, the word must begin in the square that contains its identifying number, and extend as far as the white squares continue uninterruptedly. Any word defined under "VERTICAL" will also begin in the white space that contains its number, but will extend downward as far as the white spaces remain uninterruptedly. HORIZONTAL 1. If you can, many of the dreams and ambitions that now seem far away will become realities. The sum of 34 cents is selected as an objective because it means $10 a month. If you can manage to save this much and invest it at 6 per cent, compounded semi-annually, you will at the end of five years have a nest-egg of $699.87. At the end of ten years you will have $1,640.44. In 15 years your small savings will have grown to the sum of $2,904.48 and in 20 years the amount will be $4,603.26. It is significant that, of the latter sum, $2,203.26 or nearly 48 per cent is interest. While you have been saving $2,400, your savings have been working for you and have brot in $2,203.26. Suppose the day a child is born the parents begin this system of saving 34 cents a day. By the time the child is old enough to go to college the necessary amount of money will be on hand. If not needed or desired for a college education, the sum may be put to some other useful purpose. These figures bring out two lessons in thrift: First, they illustrate that the flapping brand of the is not exclusive American; Easter holiday bathing girl wearing what the English ca-ford bags."
